Gifts to thank hospital staff

Any suggestions on what would be a nice thank you for the ward my husband is on? Or should I just stick to a tin of chocolates. He has been in hospital for five months and we are hopeful that he might get home sometime in the next few weeks- he’s been in our local hospital for quite a bit of that time and we really want a nice gift for the ward staff and his consultant.
If you have had or given a lovely gift please give me inspiration!

Nice hand cream with a pump is very popular with any professions that have to wash their hands a lot

If it's specifically for the staff then they are unable to accept anything worth over pocket change and flowers often aren't allowed on the ward so chocolates is a winner.
You could go via the hospital charity to kit out the staff room with new mugs or a coffee machine. You don't say a budget. One of the memorable gifts we had was from a chap who worked at M&S and got us new cushions cups and plates for the staff room. Another was from a family who had a small bakery and got us a lovely variety of cupcakes.

But know that it truly doesn't matter. Him going home will be SO rewarding to them and a card a few weeks later to let them know how he's doing will be most treasured of all.

Some cakes and chocs always go down well, but as prev poster said, a card letting us know how he’s getting on means such a lot and the thought to write it after discharge is really appreciated

If you know how many staff their are, individual packages with lip cream, hand cream and 3 chocolates from a box of roses/heroes etc.

Box of 100 clicking pens

I bought the midwives a massive box of chocolate bars and a big box of pens.

LemonDrizzle10 · 19/07/2023 07:31

I took in cakes for the staff to share at lunchtime and a card.

Chocolate, nice basket of fruit or cakes 🙂

We always appreciate food! Chocolates, biscuits, cakes etc!
Most people forget about operating theatres though!

Myotis · 19/07/2023 08:25

Thanks everyone- we will definitely do a card once he is back, probably get the kids to do something in it but I just wondered if everyone got fed up of chocolates!

I took in a box of decent tea bags, good instant coffee & biscuits. I also wrote to the ward & separately to anyone who had been particularly good (one of the carers was fantastic).

They like chocolates but pens are amazing.
And if you want to really thrill them a key ring that makes a noise if you clap or set off a signal or something. CD keys are always in the last persons pocket you check, sometimes they get properly lost which is v stressful.

This! nurses love pens I don't think anyone outside the medical profession understands nurses pen obsession. I have never received a pen but I would love to.

stressbucket1 · 19/07/2023 08:42

I would say the same as most. Cakes/biscuits/chocs. Either that or tea/coffee for the staff room maybe fruit teas?

I've just remembered I included fruit tea bags, hot chocolate sachets/jars as well.

Myotis · 19/07/2023 15:24

Pens and chocolates it is then!

Defo pens. My friend works in a hospital and she says there's never enough pens. Not sure how much the NHS budget stretches to lots of pens.

Rocknrollstar · 19/07/2023 15:35

I bought a basket and filled it with mini size toiletries from body Shop and Boots. I figured the staff had enough biscuits and chocolates. Write a card they can pin on the wall.

I did this - made up a basket with nice tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Also wrote to the hospital to say how wonderful everyone on the ward had been. As we were leaving the ward we heard a squeak from the staff-room and "We've got tea!" which made us smile.

ZenNudist · 19/07/2023 16:04

I'd send a thoughtful card to the consultant. They are well paid so flowers or bottle of wine probably Also nice.

For nurses £5 costa cards?

MrsWhy · 19/07/2023 17:16

When my friend left hospital she got all the nurses surgical scissors as they were always looking for them and kept losing them
