Went on a training course and it was awful

Over the weekend I went on a training course. I won't bore you with the details (I'm sure most of you have been on these things). The people who ran it were knowledgeable and professional, and the other students were very pleasant. I have no complaints at all. Unfortunately, it was much harder than I expected. We were shown certain techniques, then asked to demonstrate them. My mind went blank. And I mean blank. I forgot literally every technique seconds after being shown what to do. God it was embarrassing.

The problem, I think, is that I'm an extreme introvert and found it impossible to shut out the presence of other people. I had this problem when I took up karate. Has anyone else experienced this? What can I do about it? If I had been left alone for a day to study a video of the various techniques, I could have repeated them all, no problem. But when people are standing around me, it's like all my mental energy drains away and I turn into Forest Gump. I have to go back and do the second phase next month. How do I stop my mind being overwhelmed so that I can take in the information?

I have had that sort of experience, it's excruciating! There were quite a few replies on your other thread before you attended which might be helpful.

I know exactly what you mean.

The absolute worst was a 3 day first aid course where we had to act out as though the dummy was a real person - talk to them etc. Or talk to another trainee as though they'd really severed their fingers or whatever.

I'm fine actually first aiding people. I'm not fine doing 'role play'. Makes me want to vomit from panic.

I also learn much much better if someone shows me, and then talks me through step by step doing something myself. I'm not so good at learning just from watching.
