Taylor Swift - what to expect at the concert

14yo is going to TS in Edinburgh next year. We have got general standing tickets for her and 17yo sister, but I am now having conniptions about the sheer size of the stadium. She is epileptic and whilst has very few seizures (only a few a year and not triggered by lights, noise etc) I am getting worried about what would happen if she had one at the concert OR if she just needed to get some space if she had quivers. Just how busy/crowded will it be in General standing for example? Do they normally divide it up into sections so she could at least stand nearish to an exit/corridor etc? Please don't tell me that she shouldn't be going or we should have got seated tickets, I just want to know what we might be dealing with, having never been to a big concert I have NO idea.

not sure about Edinburgh but i was at a stadium gig a few weeks ago and a chap near me collapsed. Everyone made room for him, stood in a kind of defensive fence when arseholes started taking photos, and within 2 minutes he was being stretchered away

As long as her sister knows what to do should an attack be triggered then it will be fine. She should look for where the first aid people are and maybe try and stand nearby.

Thank you for responding. Just feel really nervous about the sheer size of it which was why I wondered if they divide up the pitch at all, or just have everyone in that huge space?

Security at large events are usually fantastic at dealing with medical emergencies. I worked a lot of big concerts once upon a time.

There are more good people than bad - the alarm is raised very quickly, people make room for security and medical staff to get through and they are well trained and efficient in getting people to safety.

If she starts to feel unwell, alert security who will be all round the perimeters, they will get her out of the crowd. There are always people over heating, dehydrated, feeling faint. Security make sure they are moved somewhere safe and given first aid attention.

Just make sure her sister stays next to her at all times and is aware, I’d tell them to stand towards the edge of the crowd rather than in the thick of it to make it easier.

When ever I’ve been at a big concert, the floor has been divided into “pens”. Felt a bit like being cattle at one recently. I’ve only experienced the free for all at festivals, not at arenas where the floor space tends to be divided up.

You can stand towards the sides of back. My dp had surgery 2 days before our last stadium gig and we just stood away from the throng

trmacc · 19/07/2023 12:20

Ok good, pens sounds sensible so there is some sort of attempt at area control. Never been to anything like this, 70k peeps at TS makes me feel ill. But thanks to your responses am feeling slighty less anxious

Will her sister be 18 next year and will she be 15? Just a question as I'm sure I've seen that under 16s need to be with someone 18 or older at Murrayfield.

General standing can be really busy, so best she sticks to the back. If they're able to chat to a security team member beforehand perhaps and give them some information then in the scenario anything happens they'll be ready to help. Security are always amazing at concerts in my experience! The crowds can be dancing / singing / jumping about in standing to definitely away from the general crowd.

Seatbealter292 · 19/07/2023 12:54

She'll be fine. Concerts this big are usually very well organised. It won't be like the pyramid stage at Glastonbury. The standing areas are usually penned off, with exit points and lots of security. As suggested, stand towards the back and clock the nearest exit. They'll have a fantastic time.

Addymontgomeryfan · 19/07/2023 13:08

Don't let the 70k people part scare you, the amount of standing tickets is much less, and there will be different areas of standing for different priced tickets. Also echoing what another poster has said, will her sister be 18 at the time of the gig?

yes, she will have turned 18, you're right about needing to be with an adult (well over 18yo)

Can i please reassure you that security and first aid are amazing. I had my daughter at harry styles and i collapsed due to health issues straight away 4 security men ran to me carried me right into the middle pen where first aid disabled toilets ect are. When i had feeling back in my legs/feet and took my medication they insisted I was then carried out to a private room so ambulance staff could get my heart blood pressure sugar levels ect and I was in a panic to get to coach home in time so we weren't stranded and they wouldn't let me go until i could walk a good length without collapsing ect and they took all my info and I explained its a ongoing medical condition. If its standing tickets she will see the huge gated area in the middle, tell her to stay close to that as she can. Also fans are generally great at looking out for each other.

Debz79 · 21/07/2023 13:23

Anytime i have been at murrayfield for a gig its never been penned off into sections as such. But huge penned area in middle and edges with security first aid ect. They also hand out free cups of water at most gigs. Make first aid aware at the start and maybe try get a contact number for one of them incase but i promise they are well trained for people falling ill and more
