recommended private pension provider

Hi all,
Need some advice here as I'm new to private pensions.
I'm going to contract with a company for 6 months and they told me the Umbrella company they are using has private pension providers like AJ BELL, Aviva, etc.

I'm considering choosing one with them, so I would be grateful if someone could recommend a provider then I'll research it more. I'm looking into the names on the list (there are a lot and don't know half of them) so it would be good to hear from others.

Thanks everyone

I have pensions with Avivia and Royal London, both are pretty good.

@winelove thanks for the reply.. I'm looking into both. Do you find they are more flexible than the state pension?

I use Reeves Independent who manage your pension and select the best platform and funds for you.

I like that they do everything for me but also keep me updated so I’m on top of it without doing anything actively if that makes sense.

If you want a referral code DM me, it gives us both £100 Amazon voucher.

NOT Aviva- just bloody awful. The customer service is appalling- they made a mistake on my pension and 14 phone calls, endless letters and a complaint to the ombudsman, 28 months later it's still not been sorted. Avoid!!

KnottyKnitting · 19/07/2023 17:51

18 months later that should say

Collie86 · 19/07/2023 17:57

@KnottyKnitting sorry to hear this happened to you. Ok, I'll look at more options.

I found Aviva good, and Standard Life.

Tawstrong · 19/07/2023 18:52

Vanguard SIPP

Govt top up by 20%
Fees only 0.22%
Buy the life funds

I used to have pensions from Aviva etc at 2% fees. What a mug!

Not sure why you would buy an expensive pension nowadays- evidence shows that managed funds don’t outperform off the shelf funds like Vaguard.

Collie86 · 21/07/2023 10:34

@Tawstrong I was looking up a SIPP when I was doing my research. I read that you need financial advice or something when setting one up because you have more flexibility and so, you should know what you're doing etc.
I'm new to all this, so is it true that you have to be more careful when starting out with a SIPP?

You don't need a financial advisor just do your own research re sipp.

Dh took his few pensionable form works ones and put it all under his control into a sipp with hargreve.

But vanguard itself it also good.
We buy vanguard funds through hargreve

RoyalImpatience · 21/07/2023 12:40

@Tawstrong because it's confusing and people don't understand it all.

RoyalImpatience · 21/07/2023 12:41

Careful in there we new of rhe funds you buy yes...

Eg i wouldn't buy soley ones companies shares.. And put all my money into them.

You buy large baskets of shares usually the bigger the better.

@RoyalImpatience thank you for the replies.
