So I've been fast tracked to an ultrasound (I'll have it on Friday). The doctor also bent the rules and gave me a mammogram even though I'm too young for one. IME the NHS drag their feet when it comes to diagnostics (it took them 12 years for a separate condition). So I'm a bit worried about this expedite service.

Wow. I can't believe how unsupportive some posters are being Hmm

@adviceseeker22 I'm sorry you are going through this. Good luck for Friday Flowers

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 19/07/2023 06:56

OP wouldn’t you be best off contacting a breast cancer charity today for support whilst you wait for diagnosis? Not sure you’re going to get much help here by the looks of it … 😳

Augend23 · 19/07/2023 06:56

That sounds very stressful and worrying OP. I really hope you get some info back soon and fingers crossed for you that it's good news.

What exactly are you worried about? You’ve been fast tracked so you will get diagnosed within the time frame. If you’re that precious about being a rare case and don’t trust the NHS to diagnose you, go private. What do you want us to say?

I don't know I was trying to find first hand experience. I would 100% go private if I knew where to turn. When I I was diagnosed with pre cervical cancer I tried to go private, and it wasn't easy to find a Dr. (A good friend of mine had the same experience, but that's down to where we live I think).

Just hopping on to say the same thing - how completely lacking in compassion some of these responses are.

Op, good luck with your follow-up appointment. I hope you get the news and treatment you want and need.

Please ignore the nasty and quite frankly bitter women on here who should be supporting not berating you! Utterly disgusting people, I hope you never have a worry like this to deal with as you probably have no friends to support you with attitudes like that!

OP, I have no advice as I've not been through it with the breast but wanted to give a handhold. I am currently sat waiting for a biopsy for something similar (not breast) so understand your worry! Hope all is ok

"Please ignore the nasty and quite frankly bitter women on here who should be supporting not berating you! Utterly disgusting people"

This comment is worse than all the others put together.

The OP was worried that the doctor had bent the rules for her (so he must be extra concerned). He hasn't bent any rules. There are no age restrictions, only in routine screening.

People are just trying to reassure her that she doesn't need to think it's an unusual thing. It's very common and the first port of call whatever your age.

MinnieMountain · 19/07/2023 10:07

In what way bitter @bladebladebla1 ?

adviceseeker22 · 19/07/2023 10:12

The mammogram being done (or not) is the least of my problems. It's the bleeding warts and a breast surgeon not knowing what they are and telling me that "it's definitely not normal".

Anywho, I've just chatted to one cancer nurse who again said a) it's not common b) in her professional opinion it will take a bit longer to diagnose because it will be assessed by an interdisciplinary team.

BTW I mentioned the mammogram thing to the nurse and she didn't fixate on it like some posters here.

OP if you are worried, you can ask your GP surgery to make a referral to your local private hospital. Literally ring them up and ask who the specialist is that you should see.

Some private names are Spire, Circle group, Bupa, Nuffield.

The secretary will normally book you in pending a referral letter from the GP, which can be emailed and doesn't have to be posted.

Fwiw, I had a HPV growth removed from my throat last year and neither me of DH are remotely worried.

I'll ask, but we don't have any local private hospitals. The only one we have only does physio. I know what private hospitals look like. Some of them I work with (as in my day job). I in fact had insurance (with Bupa) and I found it a waste of money as nothing was local.

The closet one is about a 90min drive.

I'm glad you're not worried, but I wouldn't say that's the same about me.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 19/07/2023 10:25

I guess you aren't in the South then, can't move for private hospitals near me!

There are three within 20 mins of my house.

Wouldn't you consider a drive to get a longer more detailed appointment?

I have read all the thread but I can't work out if you are or aren't on the two week pathway? And do you have a follow up appointment?

I had a two week pathway referral for a mammogram when I was 36 and the consultant viewed the mammogram and then discussed it with me in consultation immediately afterwards. (NHS) Is this what happened for you?

Moredarkchocolateplease · 19/07/2023 10:27

And on the HPV thing, my lump was half a cm wide on the back of my throat. The consultant took it out, said it was HPV and that it doesn't/wouldn't spread and that once it was out there was nothing to worry about.

I haven't heard of HPV growths on breasts but I'd imagine its the same scenario, remove them and done.

MMorales · 19/07/2023 10:33

Hope it goes ok for Friday.

I think if it's a skin issue, mammograms or U/S wont show much.

They might need to wait for the MDT and possibly take a biopsy of the skin tissue to get a diagnosis.

well, I am trying to reassure you that it is not remotely unusual

I think the OP is saying that her symptoms are unusual.

I hope you get some positive news soon OP Flowers

Yes, exactly my symptoms are unusual.

No, nobody discussed the mammogram with me. They just left me in a cubicle while the radiologist spoke to her supervisor. She came back and emphasied the need for an ultrasound.

I would go somewhere private (and drive that way) if I knew it was worth it / quicker turnaround.

By chance I'm spending some time with my cousin who is a dermatologist in a few weeks. As it could be seen as a skin issue I hope she'd be able to think of different causes.
