Summer days out in the North for 14 & 10 yr old?!

We live in the NW… Cumbria. We’re not going away this year, except for a weekend in Scotland.

We exhaust the Lake District daily due to living here… so activity days or are sorted. But…

Does anyone have any ideas for paid days out to attractions in the North?… Happy to travel to Yorkshire and Northumberland.

Only thing I can think of is c Sandcastles in Blackpool and Forbidden Corner!

Thanks!

I too live in Cumbria and we've done all of these as day trips:

National Railway Museum in York

Blackpool Pleasure Beach / Sandcastle Water Park

Beamish

Alton Towers

Flamingo Land

Alpamere Water Park in Scarborough (better than Sandcastle IMO!)

If your kids are into mountain biking have a look at the 7Stanes venues - you can either take your own or most have hire shops nearby

If you get to Morpeth, book the Running Fox for tea, they do cake, pies, sandwich, it's massive!

I have a 14 year old and we live in Lancashire. If you do Sandcastles you can also go to Stanley Park which has a fab skatepark and BMX track.

DS did an awesome driving day at Three Sisters race circuit yesterday where he got to drive 3 sports cars on the track.

Lancaster Castle now has a police museum as well as being able to go in the castle part, old prison and even older prison. It’s only open on certain days though.

What about a learn to ski/ snowboard lesson at Chill Factor if they don’t already.

DS also enjoyed the Imperial War Museum which is a short and easy team ride from Chill Factor and of course there’s the Trafford Centre across the road.

Do you have paddle boards though? That’s DS and his friend’s favourite activity.

Royal armouries in Leeds is fantastic for this age and also free. Leeds is great for a wander round and some fun places to eat (Chow Down, Trinity Kitchen). The Thackeray Medical Museum is also brilliant.

Definitely Beamish (my 14yo still likes it after years of visiting)

Hamsterley Forest for mountain biking

Stanhope Lead Mine place is surprisingly good, although not a full day's worth of visit.

Definitely not Metrocentre! It's half empty these days.

Tynemouth is great, especially if you'd enjoy the aquarium, the priory and a bit of surfing or body boarding.

Lindisfarne plus Bamburgh and Seahouses is a great day out (if the crossing times work for the island)

Agree with Alnwick for gardens, castle and Barter Books.
