Thyroid levels normal but symptomatic

I've had hashimotos for 7 years now and generally been stable.

3 weeks ago at my ds consultant appointment they asked me if I've a thyroid problem because my thyroid looks swollen and 5 days ago my own GP at an appointment for my ds said my thyroid looks noticeable and gave my a form for tsh blood test. I've also had jabbing pain in the thyroid area and my throat feels full.

I went for my results today and its classed as 'in range'. It says:

Serum TSH level - (TLJ3651) - 1 Normal - No Action 2.25 miu/L
0.30-5.00miu/L so basically the receptionist says I don't need seeing.

Thing is, I'm in a lot of pain. I have pains in my feet that feels like plantar fasciitis, my shoulders hurt, as do my fingers. I'm also feeling really tired and almost fell asleep in the library the other day!

Should the doctor do something?

I'm going to ring them in the morning but I'm just wondering what I should say really. The receptionist was really dismissive because I'm 'in range'.

Was your Serum Free T4 tested?

When I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, my TSH looked normal. The symptoms were caused by the T4 being low.

No, they haven't tested my T4 since my initial diagnosis

I would definitely be pushing to get that tested, if I were in your position.

Ultimately, if you feel bad, you feel bad and they should be doing something to help, but it's often hard to get taken seriously. I hope they get you sorted.

My serum t4 was massively out of range but all other results were normal so doctors refused to help me despite my thyroid being noticeably swollen and tender, sore hands and feet (knuckles mostly) and feeling like my body is made of lead. The doctor just said the results line shouldn't have told me about the t4 because it's irrelevant 🙄

It's such a joke isn't it. Surely something isn't right if our thyroids are noticeably swollen??

If you have one autoimmune issue it’s practically guaranteed you’ve got another.

Have you tried any autoimmune protocols?

You mean like dietary things? Not really, have you any suggestions?
I have horrendous acid reflux issues and have been referred to gastro. I have frequent gastritis and awful IBS.
I do feel like I have a sensitivity to gluten. The only time I've ever felt well is when I gave it up. I'm constantly bloated and don't digest well at all when I eat it.

@WanderingWitches Yes especially with those gastric symptoms you mention. I use a strict elimination diet with clients but it’s tough going.

If you’re going it alone try the paleo autoimmune protocol. Start with cutting out cereals/grains, dairy, eggs and soya for 6 weeks. It’s hard work but I’ve never had anyone not improve symptoms.
