Just need to vent, and maybe somebody can tell me some jokes to make me feel better?

To start with, I bought a property four months ago, I live in Greece, I am nearly totally blind and have some other difficulties. I am doing extremely well, many people who know me personally can’t believe what I am able to do, especially within the past couple of months, they have not been easy, but I do very well and keep going. I have always been very able to persevere. Anyway, I went to buy some sheets for my bed, and it’s the first time I have realized that when you buy seats in Greece, there doesn’t seem to be a fitted sheet, just a flat one. The fitted sheet is much easier for me to use, and I would prefer to use one if I can find it.

I asked on one of the foreigners groups, and most people were very kind, very helpful, just the odd few that were very insensitive, rude and just don’t think before they type, but one of them almost had me in tears. Some told me to do things like read the packages, etc. I actually made a video and posted it of seeing AI and how badly it reads things at the best of times. Sometimes it will pick up just two or three words, sometimes more, but it depends on how you angle the camera and of course you have to know where the print is, which really doesn’t work when you can’t see it. You’re guessing… I try to use Be My Eyes, but it depends how well the Internet is working, how loud the music is in the shop, etc. Sometimes, I just can’t use Be My Eyes. Until today, I didn’t know the word in Greek for how to ask for a fitted sheet, so again, when I go to the shop, and I need to ask an assistant for help and don’t know the word in Greek, an assistant doesn’t speak English, and I can’t see where the things are even too try and explain what I need, it’s tough. A lot of people take their vision for granted, I don’t say so very often, but they do. I think when you have your Health, you just don’t think about things like this. But meanwhile, it has been a very rough day. I know I shouldn’t let these people get to me… So if you have any good jokes, or funny YouTube videos, please pass them along.

I will go for coffee in a bit, since it’s 5 AM, the bakery is open, and it’s not too hot yet. I also have no air-conditioning, and I am just trying to get through the heat wave, although it has been slightly easier and cooler today.

oh gosh, that sounds very tough. Can you order a fitted sheet online and have it delivered?

Hellokittymania · 17/07/2023 03:32

Someone mentioned that you can order from Amazon in different countries and get it sent to you here, so if I can order from the UK at least I know what I’m ordering.

Sorry you're having a rough time OP.

Ikea.gr has fitted sheets:

Thank you for the link to IKEA, the closest store is actually an hour away, so I am trying to see if they have what I’m looking for in stock and I can order it online.

I guess, for me, because I have lived here for a while, but did not have a Greek bank account and wasn’t ordering anything online, so I’m not even sure which shops have an online shop here. I don’t think the supermarkets do. One lady at the supermarket told me that if I order over €60, which I rarely do, they can bring it to my home. But she said you have to come into the shop or some thing and I didn’t quite understand what she meant. I don’t think even the bigger supermarkets have an online shopping system yet

Hope you can get your fitted sheets.

Maybe you can do your supermarket shop as normal (bar frozen stuff) but then put it by for home delivery? That's how it was done in France back in the day.

Joke:

What do you call a magician who's lost his magic?

Ian.

Squishy, thank you. One of the supermarkets was trying to explain to me what to do, and I didn’t understand what they told me. My Greek is good, but when they speak at 100 miles an hour, I have a lot of trouble understanding what they’re saying. There is one supermarket when you can call and tell them what you want, but I don’t know if there’s a limit and again, having to communicate over the phone in Greek is a challenge.

i’m also still learning what is and isn’t available at the supermarket… Sometimes I just go in and randomly pick things up and have no idea what they are.
