Tired at the end of term?

Has anyone else found their child or children are particularly flagging at the end of term? My daughter seems to be absolutely wiped out (this is primary school) and even a relaxing weekend of doing very little hasn't revived her too much. This evening she basically fell asleep in her plate of pasta! She's so wiped out that I'm contemplating keeping her off tomorrow, but I'm kind of conscious that I may be being an anxious mum and perhaps it's very normal that kids are tired at the end of the school year...

completely normal particularly at the end of the summer term

Very normal. Mine becomes a bit anxious and tearful, others in his class seem rather manic or look knackered at this point. Think they're just all ready to break up now.

Definitely, dd is an emotional wreck now. She is a poor sleeper, has arfid and ASD. By god she is a mess now - she gets tired by the end of a week, end of term shattered, end of year - there really are no words. 6 weeks just about straightens her out for another year 🙈 (she is only year 3 so many more years of this to go! My eldest used to get tired by the end of the year but it to this extent!

So normal, was just talking to a friend about this recently. My children would often be off school during the last days of summer term with colds and over-tiredness!

Completely normal and not just the children, the staff are exhausted too Grin If she is happy to go in I would take her in. Not long now until the holidays.

Daisythecat15 · 16/07/2023 23:00

Oh, always. I work in a school and the kids are exhausted.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/07/2023 23:01

Yep.

My 14 year old is ok, but 11 year is wiped out. Completely normal.

Rycbar · 16/07/2023 23:28

It’s absolutely normal. Every year my class turn feral at this time of term.

Kirova · 17/07/2023 00:12

Thank you, this is reassuring! She's not so much feral as just lethargic and droopy - thought she would perk up over the weekend but we ended up having a few social things on and I'm guessing she just needs a few proper days 'off' everything. I'm not planning to keep her off, unless she's actually "unwell" and at the moment it seems like she's more just tired.

We used to call it “endoftermitis”, mine were always knackered. I must admit I let them have the odd day off over the years, especially when I knew they were doing bugger all at school anyway, but that is horribly frowned on here.

Kirova · 17/07/2023 10:24

Glad it's not just my child being feeble! I actually kept her off today. She said she's "achey all over" and started crying, and I felt too mean to send her in when she's obviously super wiped out. I hope this doesn't make me a flakey parent! To be honest, it's a bit of a nightmare as I now have to work from home and move a bunch of meetings around, but at least she's just quietly gone back to sleep and isn't needing a lot of attention..

(Although of course her dad thinks I'm being ridiculous and 'babying' her!)

Definitely reassured that others have experienced the same, but I hope she perks up once we hit the holidays all the same!
