What is matched betting? And is it worth it?

Literally this. Trying to make a few extra quid and have stumbled across matched betting. I'm utterly clueless so could someone explain to me what this is ?

If you search in this site, there must be literally hundreds of threads aking the same thing, most of them have loads of information on them so are well worth looking for.

In short, yes its worth doing, you will need some money to start with (I started with £100) and I would recommend that you join one of the facebok pages or websites dedicated to matched betting. I used Team Profit (website and FB group) and Oddsmonkey website. There are others.

I have two tips:

  1. People will tell you that it's not what it used to be. They're right, it isn't. But for the sake of about 20m effort a day, I can easily make over £300/month, and usually more.
  2. Don't worry about knowledge of sport. It is totally irrelevant. As PP said, you're following a calculated system.

Isn’t there a risk that you just get sucked into gambling though? I’m assuming that’s why the companies involved let it go. They’ll get some people through the offers, and some more from the people who are only doing it to game the system.

And I could very well be wrong but I thought it impacted your credit score, or at least your profile with your current credit providers?

What the others said but I wouldn’t leap into casino offers (and I say that as someone who does them!). With match betting you’re guaranteed a profit which essentially comes from the free bets you will get as a result of the offers you do (you’ll likely make a small, what we call, ‘qualifying’ loss on your trigger bet - I’m talking pence, less than a pound most times, but this is offset against the profit from the free bet). Casino does not guarantee profit. Yes, you will likely make profit and some folk make thousands but others either make small profits and sometimes (though fairly rarely) have a bad month when they finish down although over the fullness of time and many offers and many many spins, the profit will come. My advice is read up on match betting and see how you go. You might then decide to dip your toe into casino but only following reloads posted by Oddsmonkey or Team Casino … and never, ever, ever chase losses!!

There is that risk. To be honest, I find that sport-obsessed men hear about it and get hung up on which teams I'm betting on, whereas I literally don't give a fuck. I also would never recommend it to my brother, for example, because he has the wrong disposition. Feels like life owes him a win.

Some companies block you, some actively encourage it - after all, you actually usually "lose" more money to them, and make the money elsewhere.

When it comes to credit score, I'm no expert, but my bank account is littered with gambling transactions and my credit score is as good as it's ever been. I keep a separate account for the sake of my mortgage though.

Betting is ultimately a con.

Betting is ultimately a con.

It’s not betting like you’re thinking, certainly isn’t gambling.

OP matched betting is nothing like it was but there’s still some money in it, mostly the welcome offers. Sadly the websites which used to teach you how to do it for free all now charge. It’s worth doing for a bit though, just don’t believe you’re going to make a fortune like people in the early days did.
