What's the one thing you wished you had done in your youth/younger days?

Mine is I'd wish I'd have gone travelling although it wasn't really a thing 20 years ago, like it is now.

Also, I'd wish I'd have slept with a women ( I'm female ) always been a tad curious, I'm married now and have a couple of kids so missed the boat there!

Ditched the weed dealing boyfriend and concentrated more on my A levels.

Travelled more, I went to SE Asia for a couple of months but should’ve done more, or aimed to work/live abroad for a significant amount of time.

Not got into credit card debt for no damn good reason, I was stupid with money.

TragicMuse · 16/07/2023 18:10

Loved abroad, back when I had no responsibilities at all. I don't know why I didn't...

Quisisana · 16/07/2023 18:39

I wish I had spent gime really working out what I wanted to do and workingvtowards it instead of falling into a dead-end career.

christmassausages · 16/07/2023 18:39

I wish I'd joined the navy full time. I failed the fitness test and they told me to train a bit more and come back. I never did.

Annaisatwat · 16/07/2023 18:44

Travel
Study

They were things for other people, not me. The thought never entered my head that I could do them.

Despite me going to a grammar school with people who did do those things. My dads only aspirations for me was that I’d leave school at 16 and get a little job in Asda until I found a husband.

Tbh I wish I would have got help for my anxiety sooner and cut off friends who were toxic.

Oh and saved more! 🤣

I wish that I had gone to the 6th form interview instead of bottling out at the door and just leaving school. I should have tried for Uni which I really regret now. I also should have done things for me at 17 ie learn to drive instead of sitting home waiting for boyfriend to ring. 🤦🏻‍♀️

OrangeBananaFish · 16/07/2023 20:14

I actually wish I never went to Uni. I went because I didn't know what I wanted to do (TBH I still don't) with myself. Now I have a mediocre degree from a mediocre Uni that has nothing to do with my job.

I do wish I started running earlier. I always loved cross country at school, but once I left and started drinking (not heavy, just Fri/sat nights like most late teens/early 20's) and going out I didn't do anything like that. I took it up again when youngest DC was nearly a year old and I was mid 30's. That was nearly 13 years ago now and its one thing I've stuck at.

Not turned up at the register office.
Gone travelling
Gone to university (not at 32)

Twice I wished I'd made different decisions. The most important, and pivotal, would have been when I was very young. It would have set me on a different career path, and life entirely. I would also need some of the knowledge I have now to be imparted, obviously.

Another would be meeting my ex husband. I wish I had not and I'd have recoiled in horror and gone the other way. That reincarnation book (what is it called?) always resonates with me where the woman is able to do just that on seeing her future husband in the street.

I wish i had never gone to that party where i met my now hubby.

lastminutewednesday · 04/10/2024 07:43

I got a job offer to go in work in New England aged 21. I didn't go as was with then boyfriend at the time. We went on to get married and then divorced.
I often wonder how different life might have been had I moved to America.

Sethera · 04/10/2024 07:56

I wish I'd gone to Glastonbury (or similar). I know people of my age (50s) do go to festivals but I really couldn't do it now with my rubbish sleep, inability to drink more than a couple of beers without feeling ill, and bladder that seems to have shrunk to the size of a thimble!

Studied harder and not fucked about. I could've been significantly more wealthy if I'd known then what I know now and just put my head down.

Yes this is mine too. What a waste. Why didn’t I just make more effort? “Could try harder” was me all over.

StarlightLady · 04/10/2024 08:48

[Lighthearted] l wish l’d shagged a certain boy when l was in the VI form! I’m in my 40s now and still wish l’d gone for it 🫢.

Bollylops · 04/10/2024 08:59

Acknowledged my feelings to my crush and followed him across the world. 20 years later he told he had felt the same. Special place in ny heart for him.

DoIhavegreeneyes · 04/10/2024 09:20

Like you @Rudimental I wish I had had a relationship with a woman when I was young.
Recently (I am now middle aged) I did sleep with a woman, it was not a pleasant experience.

the80sweregreat · 04/10/2024 09:49

Slept around a bit more as I was so naïve and scared of getting pregnant.
Bought a house sooner than I did
