Can anyone help me find a present?

I have a nephew who is really into water play and I would love to buy him a water tray / activity table. However, they all seem to be made for much younger children.

He's going to be 4 and i'm looking for something that's quite tall so he has at least a few years of play out of it. Or something where the legs can be adjusted?

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you

These don't have legs, but are great. There are a few different ones in the range.

What about a tuff tray with stand, can add lots of water play accessories and change them out as he grows? It's great for water/ sand/ slime/painting/ messy play. That said they are quite shallow. Best thing I bought my children and my nieces/ nephews . Still looking strong years later

@Jijithecat I originally considered one of those but i've seen really mixed reviews about the quality which has put me off.

@Rosiepeta He has a tuff tray and stand and absolutely loves it, but unfortunately it doesn't hold enough water. It's a shame they don't do deeper trays as that would be perfect.

We looked for ages for a decent one for work that didn't cost the earth and unfortunately the best option we could come up with was a large plastic see through builders tray which sits on the floor. All the ones with stands cost hundreds. I don't think a cheap good sized one exists for less sadly.

Not a table, but this water wall looks like lots of fun and would probably entertain as your nephew gets older.

What about something for outside like a mud kitchen or water wheel?

BunnySneezes · 15/07/2023 20:57

We got one off Etsy - search for 'sensory table' or 'activity table'

We've had ours for three years now. It's still played with in the summer, folds away neatly and doesn't leak. I don't remember it being difficult to put together. Certainly not on a Little Tikes car difficulty level!

Whinge · 16/07/2023 13:41

There are some good suggestions here, and things I hadn't considered, like the water wall.

@Jijithecat That's good to hear, especially as quite a few of the reviews say it's difficult to put together and some sets are prone to leaking. I wish I knew someone outside of MN who had an aquaplay to see it in person, the price is pretty high and I would hate to spend a lot and have a disappointed child.

Something he can play with in the bath?

ohtowinthelottery · 16/07/2023 13:58

Have you tried looking at educational equipment suppliers for schools/nurseries. They tend to be more sturdy and bigger and more expensive as they're designed for multiple and older children.

He has plenty of bath toys, boats, ducks, water wheel spinning things. That's one of the reasons I thought a water table / tray would be a good present as he enjoys playing with them so much.

I have, and it's definitely an option i'm considering, I was just hoping there was something else out there that I had missed that was a little kinder on the bank balance. Grin

That does look fun, but I think it would already be too small for a 4 year old?

Very tempted to get it from my nephew !

Kinsters · 16/07/2023 14:37

You could make one yourself? You just need a plastic box and some pipes/connectors. There's loads of instructions online including this one:

I've been meaning to make a water table for my kids but haven't found the time. We already have the IKEA flisat table and I've bought a couple of cheap water dispensers with the idea that the dispensers are mounted in the middle of the table with the tubing feeding into the water tray so there is a tap on each side of the table and then they can play kitchens.

@Kinsters That's a really interesting article. I hadn't considered making one, so that's definitely something to look into.

What about those reusable magnetic water balloons? Even if it's half a gift and there was something else to go with it?

I've never heard of them do you have a link at all? Thank you

What about a mud kitchen - many examples googleable from £40-£500.

verabarbleen · 16/07/2023 19:26

Apologies if these have been suggested already, I'm cooking and didn't have time to read all the replies. I have a four year old boy though and I know he would love a slip and slide? A big paddling pool with a basket ball hoop? A really cool water gun? . Or even a day out at a water park as a gift?
