What does your cleaner do?

I’m trying to rethink how we best utilise our cleaners (use a company so it’s often different members of staff) as we have been having them come for two hours fortnightly for a while, and it doesn’t feel worth it. In that time they get round our 3 bed semi but as you can imagine it’s a surface clean rather than thorough in that time.

I have young DC so the hoover is out a few times a week anyway downstairs for crumbs etc. Same for the kitchen surfaces, they get a wipe every day.

Does anyone do a deep clean for maybe two rooms per visit?

I'm a cleaner. I do one of my clients either once or twice a week. When it's just once, everywhere gets a tickle in about 3 to 4 hours. When it's twice, I do one session upstairs and one session downstairs and do it really thoroughly. So windows, blinds, skirting boards, top of door frames, under furniture, cushions off sofas etc as well as all the normal everyday cleaning.

If you explain upfront and are clear, I don’t think it’s that difficult to find a cleaner who will do exactly what you need.

We’re pet- and childfree, have a robot vacuum cleaner which does the rounds each night, we don’t cook or use the kitchen much and have no problem wiping as we go when we do, I don’t find cleaning the bathroom a chore etc - therefore we don’t generate a lot of mess and also don’t need a cleaner for the “usual” sorts of jobs. So our cleaner specifically comes for two hours every other week to do the “spring clean” type chores that I’m too lazy to do: wiping dust from skirting boards, door frames, high surfaces etc, cleaning windows, sorting out and cleaning the shoe porch which gets cluttered, cleaning the slats on the blinds, anti-bad wiping the gym and so forth.

I previously had 2 cleaners come (they were a team) for a 2 hour fortnightly clean, I wasn't that happy as it was just a surface clean (3 bed semi, 1 bathroom) and they wouldn't move anything, just clean around everything, but it was more than I was able to do at the time. I recently started using a new lady after going back to work after maternity leave who came highly recommended and the amount she gets done by herself in 3 hours (again every 2 weeks) is amazing and I never want to lose her! She deep cleans everything, inside microwave, hoovers sofa cushions, into all the nooks and crannies everywhere. I love coming home to a spotless house after she has been, I honestly think it depends on the cleaner and how much they want/are willing to do!
