I have and always will support the strikes but have a couple of questions since the announcement that the government will accept the recommendations re pay rises but will not increase funding.

Will you still strike in light of the fact the pay rises are not being funded?

What sort of impact is this going to have in schools do you think?

We were told you were insisting on better funding for schools etc. what happened to that?

Can we expect excellence in the teaching sector now?

I'm not a teacher on a pay scale so don't 'you' me.
Teachers can only strike for pay and conditions. The last pay offer wasn't funded. Teachers were not happy as they know budgets are already mostly in deficit. They can't ask the government to increase budgets, but they can leverage their right to strike for pay and conditions to change that. Parents on here were moaning that teachers weren't happy with the pay offer and strikes were effecting them negatively. Teachers were explaining that it's not just about pay. They explained this pay offer is not funded and will massively impact the kids education. They did not lie or mislead you. Its not their fault you cannot understand this. It's really not that complicated.

You do realise they can't strike about much else?

I don't know how many times that's been stated on mumsnet, but people still don't get it.

Again, teachers can ONLY strike over pay and conditions. They will use any ensuing opportunities and publicity to complain about underfunding and the the state of school buildings, but they can't actually strike over those things.

Are you lacking grey matter? Genuinely? Please educate yourself on what teachers can and can't achieve by striking. I suggest you do your bit instead of calling public sector workers greedy.

Perfect28 · 13/07/2023 18:43

@Translucentwaters if schools collapse we have no jobs so your logic is flawed as well as being offensive. Teachers care deeply about the state of education, teacher pay is inextricably linked to that.

Crinklycut · 13/07/2023 18:44

@Translucentwaters please spend a day in a school and then make yourself reread what you have written here.

Whens this march you're organising?

BounceyB · 13/07/2023 18:45

I thought they were all being funded. Schools can't afford to take it out of their budget. They're on a shoe string as it is.

No you are doing it aren’t you? For the children like you said.

noblegiraffe · 13/07/2023 18:46

Why the fuck wouldn't teachers care about their workplaces collapsing? Or about how they're endlessly having to pick up from their classes having supply teachers or if their school can't recruit or retain? Or if their ability to teach is hampered by lack of resources or massive classes. What an utterly, fuckwittedly stupid thing to say.

Hereinthismoment · 13/07/2023 18:46

Partly. 3% funded I think, or 3.5.

BarbieBunches · 13/07/2023 18:46

@Translucentwaters i don’t understand your argument at all? Why shouldn’t teachers be paid a fair wage?

Nope. You said they should be marching if they care. I'm not a teacher. I already said. I don't understand what part of teachers LEGALLY CANNOT strike for overall school funding. They can only leverage their pay and conditions strike in a way that can help the overall situation. They've done this enmasse. Without pay. If you care so much about kids and school, what exactly have you done? Except piss on the efforts of teachers on a public forum.

noblegiraffe · 13/07/2023 18:52

The pay rise will have to come from somewhere so any extra faculties, books, mental health support - you know stuff for tbf actual children will be kicked into the long grass to pay off the teachers.

You seem to be (deliberately?) missing the bit where the govt have said it won't come from frontline children's services?

Perfect28 · 13/07/2023 18:53

@Translucentwaters the money can come from people who have lots of money, there are lots of them. Plenty in fact who have continued getting richer and richer whilst the rest of us penny pinch.

Teachers haven't accepted the deal.

You are something else.

Yes @BettyBoopy you are right. About it being a troll (on the loose with a big club and leather waistcoat). Only I accidentally fed it and am now kicking myself.

BettyBoopy · 13/07/2023 18:58

I've reported the troll. Hopefully they'll be kicked off the site for being a hate filled stirrer and a big meany pants.
