What do your kids do between end of school day and bedtime.?

Dc is yr1 and usually in after school clubs four times a week. That means we get home at 5 - starting bedtime routine 7.15 so basically 2 hrs free. Have to fit in dinner, homework, showers etc, bit of TV (10mins), literally only about 15mins of play as there doesn't seem to be any more time. It just feels like such an uninspiring amount of time when we mostly end up doing chores. What do your kids do?

Similar . Ds is in year 2. After school he has 4 evenings with an activity - outdoor adventure club , swimming , taekwondo and multi sports . Home is tea time , a chill and then bath time . We have family time at the weekend so I don’t think chilling with a few cartoons and then his toys does him any harm . Kids need down time too .

My Ds is in yr 2, finish at 3.30 x3 nights a week, on those nights we are in the house just after 4pm, i will start prepping tea while i prep he will sit in the kitchen and read to me or do spellings, once he's done that he plays or has the tv on or both lol have tea, bath, more play/ tv up to bed at 7.30 and we read a few chapters of what ever book we are reading at the time sleep at 8.30. On the after school club nights we get in at 5.30, on those nights i usually have tea already cooked so i just have to warm it up, dish out, bath pjs, tv , book and bed again.

They do need down time. We have a club 6-8 twice a week. Other days they walk the dog with me, then chill in front of the tv, play computer games , we have dinner, maybe play a board game.

Depends on the day. My DH works from home and uses his lunch break to collect DD1. On Mondays, she has a piano lesson and Cubs from 5:30, on Tuesday she has swimming at 5:30 and on Friday she has gymnastics from 6:30. After her homework, piano practice, etc., she has free play time or tablet time. Works pretty well. Her bedtime is 8pm.

DD2 is only 2 and my DM looks after her during the day. Either DH or I will collect her after we’ve finished work and she plays until bedtime at 8pm. Her activities are all daytime as is standard for toddlers.

Everything! Football, fell running, climbing, wild swimming, swimming lessons, drama club.
Kids finish at 3:30, bedtime is 8:30pm so they get 5 hours. Still feels like a rush if I'm honest. Mine are yr3 and yr4- moving into yr4 and yr5.
But they can play out as well until bedtime as we live opposite a huge field/ park.

We're looking forward to the school holidays to have a break but I know in about 4 weeks time we'll all be missing the busyness and wanting normality!

Mine (12 & 10) tend to need a couple of hours to zone out after school. (Both are dyslexic and one is autistic too). One does stay on for sports clubs if avaliable so may come home at 4.30. We then tend to be out for activities at roughly the 6-8 zone. One child is busier than the other. 9-10 is screen-free reading/ chill out time.

I think I feel a bit bad because DC arent really doing many clubs during the week but have to be in after school clubs which are fine but not always that great. So it's not like they are doing something amazing before they get home and then it's so routinized.

It depends on the day.
Mondays and Tuesdays we do swimming - so they get their clothes ready for the next day, have screen time and get their swimming bags packed. When they get home, tea is cooked and they go to bed.
wednesdays and Thursdays I have my hobby class (Wednesdays!) and they are in afterschool club until 6pm. So when they are collected, they have their dinner, I say goodbye and they have baths and bed. There’s no time for anything else.
Fridays we are all out, so they come home from school, have some screen time, do homework, wind down for the day, get their stuff for their hobby together and leave, I leave just after them. They don't get home till 9pm normally and some nights I stay at home with my youngest whilst the oldest and their dad attend a tournament. They usually bring home a chippie or some takeout.
basically the whole time is spent on major after school clubs and events and hobbies, so I let my children turn feral for an hour or so - it gets their energy out.
