Your BEST Garden Toy Ideas?

YourNameGoesHere · 12/07/2023 19:13

Ideas needed for a 3 year old for the garden please.

For context he already has a scooter and mud kitchen which he adores playing with but he largely ignores the playhouse which sits unloved in the corner.

We have been asked by a relative for ideas so they can buy him something lovely for the garden (a special treat as he has a winter birthday).

Space isn't an issue but budget is approximately £30-£40.

I'm all out of ideas so any amazing buys no matter how obscure would be greatly appreciated.

Water table

My kids have always loved swingball from that age
Space hopper
Mini basketball hoop
Water table
One of them coupe cars the red and yellow ones

Toddler trampoline (the one with the handle). Gets so much use, mainly in five minute snatches! I think would be in budget but we got ours secondhand a while ago so I can't be 100% sure.

A tuff tray and some bits to go with it would work too, I think the stand to raise it to waist height would tip it over budget but you can definitely use it lots without. I'd go tuff tray, sand and some little digger toys as it also gets used as an actual sandpit here too! Could also use it indoors in winter if you get one of the mini ones, I think they are 70cm diameter?

Oww yes we also have the cost coupe car which he still enjoys playing with and loading up with all his toys to push it around the garden 😅.

A water table sounds could work, any recommendations for a good one?

I did think of swingball but he's an only child so not sure if it would be much fun playing by himself?

Some fab ideas so far though so thank you and please keep them coming.

You get a suitcase that folds away a canal. All sorts of price range. I love it!

I'm very intrigued by this idea cannot picture at all what you're referring to.

Some great ideas thus far. I'd say the tuff tray was a winner but we already have one albeit we mostly use it inside so it's a good idea to put it outdoors in the nicer weather. Some new diggers might be a nice addition though. 😊

Stomp rockets and chalk are a huge hit with our nursery children.

Aquaplay

Smyths toys

Thank you. Yeah. That's it. Awesome.

My boys loved the Tonka construction toys their Nana bought them. They live in the garden. Some right around your price point.

YourNameGoesHere · 13/07/2023 08:05

Oww a stomp rocket could be a good shout, simple but I think he'd enjoy that.

Also been looking at the tonka trucks which look right up his street.

You guys are great and the suggestions have been brilliant thank you. 😊

They're great fun, but you do need quite a bit of space 😄

I won't repeat those already done!

Bubble machine
Lawn mower (bubble or non)
Water sprayers
Kids gardening set
Sandpit

scrivette · 13/07/2023 08:34

Best toy we were given was a sand table. It was a really sturdy table and my 12 year old still plays with it now.

Fix a piece of wood in the doorway of the playhouse and turn it into a sandpit den.

Oh that sounds tempting but I think the local cats will see it as a giant litter tray. Sand here definitely needs to be covered or removed asap or the cheeky puddy tats will make the most of it, whilst lazy dog lies and watches them literally taking the piss. 😅

A sand table sounds good though especially for longevity, I wonder which one the pp had?

He'd also love something like Jenga and maybe a lawnmower but I don't think that will be used for long as they all seem to have very low handles and whilst he's not very tall it does seem they are mostly designed for toddlers.

Bubbles are also a great shout although I've yet to find a decent bubble machine that doesn't just disappoint.

I just assumed it had a door 🙈. You definitely need one with a lid!

It does indeed have a door but the door has a hole in it and it also has windows which the cats can get in through. 😅

@scrivette Do you know the brand / make of the sand table. I would love to buy one for a relatives child but they all seem quite small.

Sorry to the Op for the slight derail. Smile

scrivette · 13/07/2023 19:27

@Whinge the brand is Step 2, although as it's about 15 years old they don't seem to have the same one, but it's lasted brilliantly.

deplorabelle · 13/07/2023 19:27

If you want the sand to stay dry then the sand pit needs to stand on the ground. Water condenses under sand table covers after a while due to temperature differential. If you don't mind wet sand a table is great.

It's a long time since ours were sandpit age but little tikes was a good make with a sturdy lid.

If you're a fan of mayhem in your life tip cress seeds into a sand table full of wet sand. Best fun ever. For slightly cleaner fun, bury seashells and get big ones to dig with.

Ah that's a shame. The old ones seem so much more durable and interesting compared to what you can buy in the shops now.

Aquaplay is amazing. Had one for 2nd birthday and DS still plays with it for hours at a time at 6.
