Is there anything tastier than fresh crusty bread with cheese?

Fresh crusty bread, butter, cheese and pickle is one of the things I really miss. Gluten free comes nowhere near.

Lwrenagain · 12/07/2023 17:21

@Bluevelvetsofa being gluten free is absolutely shite, you're right. No decent comparable bread.
Although I do like the schar loaves toasted, allowed to cool and then covered in butter, cream cheese and tomatoes.
But it's not the same 😔

Soubriquet · 12/07/2023 17:22

I have fresh bread and dip it ketchup Grin

I have recently discovered Morrison's cob loaves. 69p for pure happiness. I didn't even get as far as the cheese but just had it with butter.

PollyCreo · 12/07/2023 17:31

Why do I keep refreshing this thread FFS? I've now got proper carb-rage by proxy 😥🤬😂

Hot crusty garlic bread with hot Camembert and rosemary 🤤

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/07/2023 17:36

Crusty bread, cheese, Garners pickled onions and a pile of black grapes.

With crusty bread and a really good lemon curd for pudding.

cpphelp · 12/07/2023 17:36

My husband is away now for two nights... I'm getting inspiration!

BigBundleOfFluff · 12/07/2023 17:37

As long as you follow it up with pudding - crusty bread, butter and jam.

Hey don’t knock it! It’s really moorish

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/07/2023 18:16

Good bread is enough, but it's a lily that I am more than happy to gild...

Darklane · 12/07/2023 16:52

I must have missed that. Do you find it in the same chiller as the rest of the cheese?

Yes usually around the cheese section. Other supermarkets do it too, though flavours may differ slightly.

Freshly made donuts - it has to be a classic sugar ring donut though

Back when I was dieting I'd feel the same. Now I allow myself to eat what I want I can take it or leave it.

Have lost 60lbs without dieting, I promise there's a better way if you're doing it for weight loss!

thirtyfivethirtyeight · 12/07/2023 18:53

Crusty bread but with a selection of things to mow through including good cheeses, butter, pate (veggie kind), juicy tomatoes from the garden (with sea salt) and oh, I'd do some with a lovely lemon curd too.

I'm on a VLCD at the moment and am now drooling...

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/07/2023 19:01

Fresh bread, a selection of cheeses and a bottle of Barolo would be my last meal.

TileMeSomeMore · 12/07/2023 19:05

This is our boxing day treat, part baked bread still warm from the oven, good butter, brie and some Parma ham. There are also grapes, you know, to make it feel a bit healthy. It is a total stodge lunch and we love it. There are other cheeses but brie for that occasion is my favourite.

I am just about to get my dinner out of the oven but this has made me want the bread!

FijiSea · 12/07/2023 19:12

@SmirnoffIceIsNice i love those cheese melts too , I love the Aldi one with chorizo through it and it’s amazing with hot park baked baguette dipped in.
The M & S cheese melt is delicious too, calories and fat through the roof but so good as rare treat.
The ceramic dishes are handy too.

Answering the OP though , nothing beats fresh tiger baguette with real butter , it’s got to be a soft super fresh baguette that’s had the squish test …

Our traditional Xmas eve meal is homemade soup, oven baked baguettes, fresh tomatoes, olives and a big baked Camembert. So delicious.

Crusty bread always takes a layer of skin off the roof of my mouth. I must be doing it wrong... But soft bread and butter/cheese, absolutely!

AltitudeCheck · 12/07/2023 19:29

@Miajk I must disagree!!!
It was allowing myself to eat what I wanted / when I wanted that got me into this pickle 😂

PollyCreo · 12/07/2023 19:30

This is why I love being a grown up. There are days when I CBA preparing a healthy lentil-based meal and just sit down with a platter (not plate) of cheese and crackers 🧀

It still requires hard work and adjusting habits for life!

But putting in the work to be more mindful, understand that boredom/emotional eating doesn't help, and ditching diets to stop the yo-yo was crucial for me to keep it off.

Now it's automatic. And very easy!! And I can have all the crusty bread I want, just happens i don't want it as much when I have it anytime 😀
