Has anyone had a payout for whiplash lately and if so do you mind sharing how much ?

I was rear ended in April by someone who promptly drove off, between the jigs and the reels, I found him, he admitted it, and we moved forward to the next stage I needed ten physio sessions to sort my neck.

My insurance company contacted me and said that they had arrived a figure for compensation and that a manager would be in touch within ten days to tell me the figure they had decided/were offering.

It is now twenty working days and so far radio silence and it is giving me the pip, it is not about the money per se, just don’t bother telling me how super dooper your system is and then fail to deliver, if you hadn’t contacted me with a here is what we are going to do phone call, I would be none the wiser.

Yes I know it is a first world problem, yes I do have other things to bother me, and yes I need to get a life…….

I just hate waiting, don’t care if it is £10 or £100, (it is going to charity anyway) just close the process and let me find something else to be irritated by. Eye thank ewe…..😂

>£2k 4 years ago.

I was stationary in a queue of traffic at a red light. Car with an elderly driver ploughed directly into me going ~20 mph. Many witnesses and I was taken to A&E. Lots of physio etc.

Wimbo · 12/07/2023 12:40

They said they didn’t see me ‘because of the sun’.

Wimbo · 12/07/2023 12:49

Sorry - final comment. I was assessed by what I presume was the insurers ‘independent’ doctor, although turned out he was v nice and sympathetic. He had a bunch of paperwork detailing the speeds involved and the fact I was stationary. Combined with medical notes, he determined I did have whiplash and ‘it was probably a nasty experience’.

I think it’s a lot to do with speed impact calculators not just being rear ended per de, due to the number of false claims etc. ?

There is a set amount now:

Up to 3 months - £240
4-6 months - £495
7-9 months - £840
10-12 months - £1320
13-15 months - £2040
16-18 months - £3005
19-24 months - £4215

Thank you everyone, maybe this will magic up a reply from them, the money is earmarked for The Trussell Trust and I just feel that they are annoying me by not delivering in the time span promised and depriving TTT and yes I probably am as bonkers as I sound. 😂

There I was minding my own business in stationary traffic, the sun was shining my inheritance had landed, (hence the money going to the TT, probate was no longer hanging over us (and the executor had nothing left to sigh loudly about 😂and it was one of those lovely moments where everything felt just right with the world and then boom…….

Had he stopped at the scene I probably wouldn’t have bothered with the claim, but he might learn from this that you can’t just hit and go.

@Parky04 what are those timescales measuring?

Parky04 · 12/07/2023 14:03

I got paid 6k in 1989. I was pretty bad though.

l still get pain from it 34 years later.

I cracked and rang them, turns out the “doctor” I saw for them at serviced offices neglected to note my headaches for the first week and anxiety for the first week, (didn’t want to drive the replacement car, constantly looking in my rear view mirror)not sleeping.

So the file has been returned to my file handler for further action.

They are writing to me to seek clarification, so now I know, I can action it when it arrives, it is just the waiting I hate, they still can’t give me a figure so TTT will have to wait a little longer.

Gah, I just want it off my mental desk. 😄

Headaches & anxiety for a week is hardly going to change the amount that you will receive!

LosingMyPancakes · 12/07/2023 14:58

They've really cracked down on whiplash claims in recent years due to all the fraudulent ones so it's a lot tougher to get a payout processed.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 12/07/2023 14:59

I got £4k in 2017 for a broken collarbone where someone went into the back of me and the seat belt did its job. Was a simple recovery with no complications.

As I said it is immaterial to me, the Trussell Trust will benefit, I am just the sort on person is timeline driven, if before I retired I gave a person a deadline, I delivered, old habits die hard.

@LosingMyPancakes

Get that, just frustrated by lack of process.

@OneRingToRuleThemAll

Blimey that must have been some shunt. How is your collarbone now,??

I broke my finger years ago and I still know when it is going to rain. 😂

Well come on then… how much?

HighEndGrifters · 13/12/2023 17:04

At this stage, I would have hounded them for a fiver, they move so slowly.

£900

@Parky04 wasn’t far off!

BetsyBloom · 13/12/2023 21:14

I had the same thing happen to me mid-July. Just finished my physio sessions. Still awaiting payout. I was advised the scale mentioned by previous poster so anticipate about £450. Do you know why yours was double that?

HighEndGrifters · 14/12/2023 09:39

Not a clue. Sorry.

£1320 - 6 months ago. I could have gotten more if I claimed it a bit early. Please check the below table (attached) for a better understanding about the compensation amount. I took it from an online compensation calculator. They helped me with my claim. Cheers.
