Those who fly very frequently

Can you just reassure me it's something very mundane and safe.

I'm flying tomorrow and am so scared.

But I know there's plenty of people that do it all the time.

My DH uses planes like they are buses or trains. Up and down from Scotland to London constantly. He has never had an issue other than planes being late or cancelled which also happens with buses and trains! It is very very safe.

It is probably the safest form of transport....you will be absolutely fine. Try and listen to some music or a podcast that can distract you - taking off and landing can be the worst bits...but think how many thousands and thousands of people who fly every day safely arrive at their destinations. Even when I lived in Russia and flew on some very dodgy internal flights, I still made it out in one piece....

Good luck, deep breaths, and happy travels.

Yes, very safe. Have a look at the flight radar ap to see how many flights are in the air at any one time

Flying is the single safest mode of transport. It will be fine. I often feel a little apprehensive on take off, it's a weird sensation for me, but it has always always been fine. I've flown 6 times so far this year and it's been issue free, a bit bumpy perhaps but nothing a pilot can't handle. I'm flying again this week and will fly again in September. A lot for me in one year but I trust in the pilots and the safety requirements on any plane that flies out of the Uk are very stringent. You can do this.

Read Alan carrs fear of flying book. I used to be terrified but for various reasons we go away about 7 times a year now and it’s helped calm me down so much. I’ve had hypnotism, done fear of flying courses and used to drug myself - this was the only thing that seems to work!

TheBellsToll · 11/07/2023 17:50

I don’t fly very frequently, but I probably do 4 long flights and 4 short ones a year.

It’s really safe! Safer than the drive to the airport, statistically.

Mind you, I hate turbulence 😂

I’m long haul cabin crew and have been for 24 years and I’ve never had anything vaguely scary happen or felt unsafe at any time.
Maybe let the cabin crew know, when I know someone is worried I always go out of my way to look after and comfort them.
You’ll be absolutely fine.

gogomoto · 11/07/2023 17:58

Dp flies most weeks, sometimes long haul but mostly to Europe for work. It's safe

You don't know how much this just helped me.

Thankyou.

Well, I survived both flights. We didn't crash 😂

But my anxiety was crazy throughout.

I spent every moment thinking the next 10 seconds would be my last. Every bump I was waiting for the nosedive to follow.

Not sure I can do it again.

But the holiday was lovely. Just wish teleportation was real!
