How does the BBC get out of the presenter mess?

1000 replies

mids2019 · 11/07/2023 07:13

Seriously how does the BBC now go forward and what can be the conclusion to this story? The story could run for some time with on going speculation about the presenter and eventually in my opinion a name will drop.

Can there therefore be any sort of fair investigation because I think there may be too much aspirational damage now for a career to be as ed. It seems the knives the BBC sit on this the more scrutiny there is and they desperately need a conclusion?

Well there’s photos all over Twitter with the presenter with his bum on display , trousers round his ankles. So unless it’s photoshop I’m assuming his name is pretty much out….just not in main stream media.

Police aren’t tak8ng action. I’d imagine the bbc will pay him off and officially he will “retire”.

AutisticLegoLover · 11/07/2023 07:16

It all seems very odd. No name and a denial from the then-child's lawyer. The no name thing I understand due to privacy but the parents saying it's true but the actual alleged victim denying it is strange.

mids2019 · 11/07/2023 07:18

I get the retiring bit but it still will be a career ended in disgrace?

Tbf,if I was the 20year old I would deny it if it is the person I think.it is its incredibly sleazy and its not something I imagine most 20/year olds want their friends knowing.

Yes. You dont come back from something like this. The only way this would not happen is if he sued publicly and won (Johnny depp did and his career is back now).

He's addicted to crack. I dont think his friend are going to be particularly judgemental if they are also drug addicts tbh

so do you think ultimately the internal.investigation is pointless.as the court of human opinion will prevail? Is it therefore in the BBCs interests to end this maybe in the next couple of days as it has its own reputation to defend?

It’s not that strange. Teens/adult children often have hugely different boundaries to their parents around what they think constitutes acceptable behaviour.

WeAreTheHeroes · 11/07/2023 07:23

I don't understand some of your post because there are several typos.

In my view, the Sun hates the BBC and is trying to put the boot in. The way they've reported suggests they don't have a great deal of evidence, if any. If there is no criminality then what can/should the BBC do? The witch hunt by social media is very concerning. It's not on. The desire for gossip and the way that once something it has been repeated many times it becomes the "truth", even with no evidence if dangerous. The impact on people's lives appears to be something which very many people don't even think about.

I think there's lot of FUCKFUCKFUCKFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK meetings right nowbar the BBC

And lots of uncertainty from the 20 yo and it will be very interesting to see what happens

Thearseyone · 11/07/2023 07:25

What a mess this is.

As the mother said, how does this kid afford one of the most expensive law firms there is to represent them, or even know who they are and what they specialise in. If this kid has been got at to make that statement, or even paid this just got a whole lot worse for the presenter.

he’s clearly about to be named. Which is a bit of a moot point, as it’s literally everywhere, and if that happens before the bbc name, then I I am not sure they can come back from this, it’s looking like a massive, massive cover up and everyone else being thrown under the bus, inc the BBC’s remaining reputation to protect.

it’s now at the stage I think very few people are naive enough to believe it’s not true. It looks really bad, the denial and the refutal

He needs to stop trying to hide from it and take control of the narrative. It’s past the point of no return.

the bbc needs to step up today, they have tried to hide from it for too long.

My guess is that the then-child has received a significant payout in order to shut them up.

@WeAreTheHeroes

sorry for the typos.

if you are to describe this as a witch hunt realistically can careers be saved as there seems an extreme appetite for a name and for the BBC to maintain its investigations credibility will one have to come?

They have shown screenshots of bank payments and also text conversations. There is sufficient evidence from what the parents have said.

They have to investigate it internally.

I would imagine a lot hinges on:

  1. Was it actually illegal?
  2. Even if the act wasnt illegal, and he did do it- they still cant put him on air ever again as what he did was sleazy AF
  3. If everyone denies everything and no evidence either way- this is the one I am not sure what would happen as if no evidence, surely he could sue them for unfair dismissal? Think this is unlikely though as he'd probably just take a big pay off to go quietly. Mud sticks and I cant imagine the hassle he'd get on social media if he stayed on
Millicentmargaretamandaholden · 11/07/2023 07:29

Dunno. I’m more interested in how the Sun gets out of this, if the police say it’s not a police matter and if the man says it’s rubbish.

I don’t get the actions or motives of his parents in this either.

bellac11 · 11/07/2023 07:31

I think the worst thing about all this is that this is essentially a family drama/dysfunction, being played out in public, in the media, on social media

So the person right at the centre of it all, who should have the choice and agency about what is said about them, makes a statement and then mother goes public to question that.

What next, long drawn out 'no you didnt, yes I did, no you're not, yes I am' type communications between them?

Its that, that needs to stop and papers and media enabling that are shameful.

MadamWhiteleigh · 11/07/2023 07:32

it’s looking like a massive, massive cover up

I don’t see any evidence that the BBC has tried to cover this up. The allegations were first made in May and from their statement, it seems they tried to get more information but didn’t get a reply. But they continued to try and investigate. So you think they should have made it public then? And what should they have said?

No of course his career cant be saved

Having said that, when I raised this at work yesterday no one seemed to know what I was talking about!!! Let alone who it might be

Winchester100 · 11/07/2023 07:32

But if nothing illegal took place, and the parents went to a tabloid and ruined the guy’s life…what the hell?

If the young guy was on ‘Only Fans’ and selling content to whoever would buy it - distasteful but not illegal. Would the parents have gone after the person/people viewing that content had they not been famous? I doubt it. They had no power to go to anyone paying for OF content and tell them
to stop. We are talking about their adult ‘child.’

I think if the young person sticks to his story, the parents and The Sun are in the shit.

I don’t personally care what people get up to in their private lives providing it’s not illegal. Working for the BBC does not make you public property. I’d like to see this person back in his job tbh, I think he’s good at it and I prefer him to any alternatives.

Which firm is it?

Juanmartinez · 11/07/2023 07:34

I would like for someone (police?) to look at the bank statements and phone records and then surely this will either be proved or disproved.
