Tempted to take ds15 to try to get in to watch on the hill but I don't understand the queue at all.

Are there separate queues for the courts and the hill? Once your in, can you stay all day?

What can you take in? What do people do with their tents?

There's just one queue. Depending on various factors it usually starts at some point the morning before the day you are queueing for. About 6am the people in tents are woken up and asked to pack up their stuff, there are left luggage places to stow it. They then give out wristbands for the show courts starting at the front of the queue until they run out - the people at the front can choose which court they want until all the wristbands are given out for each court, about 500 each for Centre, One and Two. Everyone after that gets grounds passes. You then go through the ticket tent and pay for your ticket before going in to the grounds. If you have grounds passes you can stay all day, wander around, watch matches on outside courts, sit on the hill etc. You can also queue inside the grounds for resale tickets for the main courts. For grounds passes I wouldn't bother queueing overnight, just get there as early as you can in the morning (ie before 8am, before 7am if you can). Lots of good info about what you can take in on the website.

The ultimate Wimbledon experience, the Grounds Pass enables you to access all courts including No.3 Court, Court 12 and Court 18, as well as The Hill, where we screen the action from Centre and No.1 Courts.
Grounds Passes are priced at £27 and are reduced from day nine onwards as The Championships progresses.
If you arrive in The Queue by 9am, you should have a good chance of getting in, although we can't guarantee availability of course.

Only the show courts have tickets. Once you have a grounds pass you can wait outside the lower numbered courts to watch or just sit on the hill

It really depends on the day. I've walked in via the queue at 9.30am, in the grounds by 10.30am. And I queued on Tuesday at 8.30am and waited 3 hrs and gave up, was definitely not getting in (queue ticket was 12,584!)

I've also gone with kids after school once and got in at 4pm...but that was way before they were able to play till 11pm.

It’s also great fun, very well organised, not like a pushing & jostling sort of queue at all. A very tidy line of people sauntering along. You can buy drinks and newspapers and it’s a nice atmosphere.

Se hot here at 5am today and hot Court 1! 😁Had the choice of Centre Court too.

Ahhh sorry for all the typos. Clearly too excited 😆

Also, we discovered that you can park very close to the queue entrance as people are offering their driveways as car parks. Probably a lot more expensive than a car park, but at least it's right by the entrance. £40 for the day

From what I recall (years ago), it was all very civilised! You are given queue number tickets to nipping to the loo is possible. You can buy bacon butties. Lots of people with camping chairs and lots of early morning Pimms being consumed. Very British and great fun; the queue was a (good) experience in itself and not just something to be endured. We arrived at 6, were in shortly after 11 with ground tickets and then got tickets for centre court at 5; there are lots of people who leave around then so we had options for Centre and court 1. It was an awesome day!

DyslexicPoster · 12/07/2023 08:33

Well done! How much did that cost?

I can't work out which is the best day to go, early in the fortnight or later? It seem some people who went last week and early this week didn't get in?!

It's our first time and it was much easier than I expected. First 500 in the queue are guaranteed Centre Court. 500-1000 are likely to get Court 1. If you can here around 3am you will almost certainly be in the first 500. As I said, we got here at 5am and got in the 600s.

People in the first 500 get a right to pick the court they want first. Some of them pick Court 1 over Centre Court depending on who is playing where. So there were still Centre Court tickets left by the time it came to us.

As soon as you arrive (at the Wimbledon Park Rd gate) you will receive a queue card with your place in the queue. It's all very well-organised and easy. The people are also super friendly.

I think earlier in the week it's very busy because you're more likely to see all the stars before any of them get knocked out. Day 10 (today) is the last day you can get Centre Court tickets in the queue but you can still get Court 1 tickets I'm pretty sure tomorrow and for example today I prefer the Court 1 matches.

XelaM · 12/07/2023 08:55

It's £185 for Centre Court;
£170 for Court 1; and
£20 for Grounds admission which allows you to go to the Hill, Courts 3 - 18 and obviously general grounds.

Those might be today's prices but they vary throughout the fortnight. Grounds passes start more expensive and get cheaper as there are less matches on the outside courts, show court tickets get more expensive as they progress through the rounds. The prices are all on the Wimbledon website

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 12/07/2023 11:47

Ticket availability varies hugely depending on who is playing, the weather, and multiple other factors. Sometimes it seems completely random. I've arrived at 10am the day before and only been able to get court 2, and I've seen people arrive at 6am on the day and be offered Centre 🤷

Ohh how interesting! I didn't realise the prices changed depending on the match and the day of the week.

Ohmylovejune · 12/07/2023 16:32

Yes they do. Last year I had tickets for Men's Final Centre Court and paid £240 each. (Originally won in 2020 ballot delayed due to covid).

This year I won mens finals day court 1 tickets in the ballot and they were £40 each. I did buy them but things have happened since, so I returned them for a full refund.

The show courts have different prices for different days given the level of match you would be expecting to see. **

XelaM · 12/07/2023 21:19

@Ohmylovejune Wow the men's final must have been an amazing experience!

We had an absolutely incredible day!! 🤩It was totally magical and everything I imagined the Wimbledon experience to be. Our seats were so good I felt like we were celebrities. We sat literally as close to the court as you can possibly get. We got to see some superb tennis and Medvedev won and was a fantastic match that was. 😁 Just an absolutely brilliant day.

Ohmylovejune · 12/07/2023 21:24

@XelaM

Fab!

Enter the ballot for next year. You never know!

Absolutely will enter the ballot. I read somewhere that it opens in September. Is that right?

Ohmylovejune · 13/07/2023 11:42

Probably. I know it's a few weeks after this tournament ends and then it usually closes in December.

You can only apply once from a household and the name of the "winner" has to attend with photo ID although if you get two tickets the guest can be anyone although they still need to take ID. When I say "winner" you still pay!

I've been lucky over the years. Despite many years getting nothing I've had Mens CC QF on my 30th birthday, Mens Final CC, and twice Mens Finals Day Court 1.

Ohmylovejune · 13/07/2023 11:52

And if you can't attend then you can send them back and get a refund. That's what I've done this year as a few things have got in the way of me attending so ill have to watch from my sofa.

If you don't get ballot tickets you can do what you've done this year. I assume you are local? I'm in Cornwall so it's not so practical for me to do it via the queue which is taking a bit of a punt. If I live close ish I'd go every year and watch play on the outside courts especially week 1 and also the wheelchair play, both which I love watching.

XelaM · 13/07/2023 12:21

Thank you! I'm in London albeit the other side 😂 but will definitely try the ballot and if unsuccessful- the queue. We might have been just extremely lucky but it didn't seem particularly onerous and time passes quickly. I even my teen who didn't want to go and hated being woken up at 3:30am said the queue wasn't bad. Very good tip about the outside courts on the first week.

Clarke54 · 10/02/2024 08:14

anyone got any tickets this week
