I think it's important to understand, really understand, what suffering is like and how hard life can be for some people.

I think there's a fine line between that and voyeurism, just as a personal opinion

There's a long thread on this where the play is discussed in detail at the end:

Do you have the same view of those that enjoy horror films?

imo the book was self-indulgent tosh. It was written by someone with skills but too young to wield them well.

About half the way through I honestly wanted Jude to put himself out of his misery already and I felt zero empathy for any of the characters. And I’ve been abused. So don’t know what that says about me.

Saw it yesterday. It was amazing, really stunning, I am still processing it now. Read up on it, heed the warnings, it is not an easy watch

I saw it yesterday too and completely agree that it was an absolutely breathtaking production with an incredibly talented cast. They thoroughly deserved the standing ovation that they get at every single performance.

It is definitely not for the fainthearted, and if you do decide to go, make sure that you are aware of the subject matters that it covers as some people can find this really triggering. I thought I would be a blubbering mess for the entire show, and there were definitely moments that I found extremely difficult to watch but I mainly spent my time in complete awe of how the actors step out and perform like that every day, sometimes twice a day.

It's real. It's gritty and definitely pushes the boundaries, but ultimately, it's an excellent piece of theatre.

I've seen it, and I've read the book which I thought was a masterpiece. The play is good but I would say the book is better. The beautiful writing lifts it out of being pure misery.

It is a hard watch but I did think it was good. It was a different experience from the book (hard to explain how exactly but essentially I found the book a lot less relentless).

The performances are excellent.
