How to store walking sticks

Inspired by another thread about how you store wrapping paper.

I need to use a walking stick due to a disability. I have three different ones.

I would like a nice heavy metal walking stick holder to keep in the porch, but am reluctant to spend around £££ for this purpose. I used to have a large vase that I kept them in instead, but unfortunately that smashed, so I was wondering if anyone had any inspired ideas of other household items similar to a large vase (but not breakable)that can serve the same purpose.

Thank you.

Are umbrella stands any cheaper than ones for walking sticks?

Not that I have found, unfortunately, but if anyone has a link to a reasonably priced one, that would be great.

A welly boot. Weigh the toe down with a lead weight or something like marbles so that it doesn’t tip over.

Or get a couple of nice wide brackets and hang them on the wall horizontally behind the door

It was given to me by a friend who went to Suffolk on holiday, it's really sturdy and was made by a local crafter. It's so useful, I've had it over 20 years.

That is a great idea! Thank you. We have some wellies in the garage. This is just the sort of random object that I was trying to think of, but nothing sprang to mind.

Thanks. I just searched for tall basket on Amazon and found this one that is designed to store toilet rolls in, so something like that might suffice if I weighted the bottom down with marbles or something.

Broom clips on the wall. Cheap as chips on amazon.

Darklane · 10/07/2023 17:26

Check out sales at local antique auction houses, most have websites where they post their catalogues for upcoming sales. Stick stands often come up for sale & are cheaper than buying new.

Thisisnowmyusername · 10/07/2023 18:30

Thanks everyone. Some good ideas.

I bought a cheap coal scuttle to store walking sticks, beach umbrellas etc.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 10/07/2023 18:44

Or this one's cheaper (and nicer imo) reduced to clear

There are loads and loads of vintage ones on eBay (assuming you're in the UK) OP. Around the £20-£30 mark. Some are gorgeous and you can pick one that fits in with the style of your home.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 11/07/2023 00:00

I just hang mine on a coat hook

Poshjock · 11/07/2023 00:12

How about a tall planter. B&M have got some reasonable looking ones.

I don’t use sticks in mine but I had a tall vase with artificial flowers that my cats broke, I replaced it with a wooden vase similar to this one. I’m sure I bought it from the range, so wasn’t super expensive.

I keep mine in an old chimney pot, not really a cheap option, unless you already had one.

FussyPud · 11/07/2023 00:45

My sticks and crutches are all stored using broom clips, like a previous poster suggested. Not fancy, but it stops me falling over them.

OCaptain · 11/07/2023 04:30

In the broom closet, if you have one.

Thisisnowmyusername · 11/07/2023 09:21

Wow - I never expected so many replies. Thank you all very much I particularly like the wooden vase pictured, so over t he next couple of weeks, I am going to browse round the shops looking at the section for vases rather than specifically look for walking stick or umbrella holders. Failing that, I think I will look for a tall basket, like the one I linked on Amazon.

That's a good idea.
You don't want to risk tripping over one
