Quick question about PIP renewal - help please!

questionersquestion · 10/07/2023 06:35

I received my PIP renewal at the end of last week.

It says I have to send it back to them by 24th July (two weeks today), and the date on the form is 24th June (funny as that was a Saturday), so the form took nearly two weeks to reach me.

I was going to fill it in and send it either later this week, early next week, but am now worried it will take two weeks to get there.

Also is it best to send it via recorded delivery, or just use the postage on the envelope? I worry as it's second class post, so may take ages to arrive.

Does sending it to them before the date (with proof of postage from the PO, count or do they have to actually have it in their hands?

Sorry for the questions, I haven't slept all night and am very anxious.

Just trying to bump for you.
If it were me I'd send recorded delivery just to be sure.

questionersquestion · 10/07/2023 06:53

@ClemmyTine thank you so much, I think I will.

Make a copy of the claim for yourself to keep then send the claim form by recorded delivery,

Bakedbeans4tea · 10/07/2023 07:02

You can also phone them and extend the deadline if you need to

CantFindTheBeat · 10/07/2023 07:03

Send it back recorded/signed for, OP.

It will be fine but this will give you peace of mind.

The date on the forms is there to stop people holding onto them for ages. Even if you don't send it in they will arrange the review. This is done as there are many people that don't fill the forms in for various reasons e.g. mental health difficulties or thay may miss the renewal if they have changed address and not updated the DWP (creates another issue if they also haven't got the same phone number). It will still be scanned on to they system if received late but they won't guarantee that it can be considered as evidence if the assessment/decision is made first.

Or if you call them they will give you a 2 week extension if that puts your mind at ease more.

Hope that helps a little.

They need it in their hands by the specified date to treat you fairly. Unless you have to gather evidence that you don't have, you actually are ok for time.
I'd have it done and sent by the 19th.

If you have to gather evidence that's going to take time, call them and explain you are struggling to get the required evidence. They can extend the return date.

You don't need recorded delivery but definitely do get proof of postage.

I know it's horribly stressful and can be stupidly time consuming for some, (me) but get started on it asap so you can see what you may need to gather, and time to read and reread to see what you may need to ensure you've included.

I struggled with getting a very different form from what's previously been sent to me, and they gave me some really helpful advice on how to fill it in to best reflect my situation.

Make and keep a copy, and also (as I've failed to previously do) in future keep a folder that you drop hospital admission -discharge letters, physio appointments etc into. It saves so much grief later, and if your medical records have serious errors such as incorrect dates on them, you can do something about it at the time.

Thank you all, I hope to get it done in the next couple of days, as I have someone here this week who can help, but they'll be gone by the weekend, so will get over and done with. Did think trying to extend, but am nervous of phoning them. Thanks

Don't send it second class if it's time sensitive

Mrsjayy · 10/07/2023 08:13

Yes it got there in a couple of days go to the post office and ask there what's best you can also get next day delivery. I know its stressful but try and not let this play on your mind fill it in send it back I don't think the form will be rejected because it is a day or 2 late but it won't be, keep your emotional energy for filling it in.

The free postage on the envelope is 2nd class.

The free postage on the envelope is 2nd class.

Right; but it's time sensitive so fine to override it.

Patchw0rk · 10/07/2023 12:29

I sent mine recorded delivery for peace of mind.

This is what we always do. Don't know if it would ever make a difference if it happened to get lost but makes us feel better knowing it shouldn't be lying about in the sorting offices potentially getting lost.

Also yes, I've noticed the date they supposedly send the letter is always weeks earlier eating into the time I have to send the form back
