Silent fidget toy

Hi!

i was wondering if someone had experience with various types of fidget toys and could advise on which ones are quiet.

We don't suspect any major issues, but DD1 can't sit still at all when doing her homework 😑 worst is I'm about to start homeschooling my children (life circumstances) and I don't want this to become a problem.

It crossed my mind that a fidget toy may help. However I couldn't stand something making noise.....

Thank you!

What about a wobble cushion for the seat? Or something for her to put her feet on if they aren't touching the floor?

How old is she? Most things don't make a noise. Like blu-tac.

not at all what you asked but...

If your daughter doesn't do well with sitting still, you don't have to make her sit still while she is learning. In a school classroom, people find it distracting for someone to wander around the classroom, bounce on a space hopper, or hang upside down from a gymnastics bar. Home educated kids can do all those things without it bothering the other 29 kids.

Even in the case of kids who do find it easy to sit and do formal work, many home ed families don't choose to learn that way. My eldest had no ADHD or other challenges, but was often upside down when discussing maths.

(If I remember right, there is even some research suggesting that people retain mathematical ideas better if they are in motion when learning them - gesturing, walking, etc. My classmates and I were aware of this when I was doing maths at uni 30 years ago, and some educators use it today, though it presents challenges in a crowded classroom environment. https://teachmag.com/archives/9779 I don't know whether the same is true of other subjects.)

You could post on the Mumsnet home ed board if you want to chat about different approaches.

Learning Math through Movement

Imagine a math class where kids are hopping up and down, swinging their arms side to side, and shouting out numbers.

Thanks for the replies 😊

A lot of good ideas and suggestions!

She's about to turn 7. I think the biggest problem is that aiding with homework is not really teaching...... she gets frustrated..... hopefully it'll work better with homeschooling. But I'm definitely going to look into what you're saying 👍

As above, my DD likes monkey noodles, blue tack, and her wobble cushion, plus mini hedgehog balls - all silent!
Out of the house/school where noise isn't so noticeable, she likes her fidget cube. That isn't horribly loud either TBH (one side has a thing that clicks), and she mostly uses the side that is a flat disc that can move like a joystick (silently!).
