Anybody else thinking about the mumsnetter whose bank account was closed for no reason that she understood

Apologies for wondering, but talk of Nigel Farrage and Jeremy Vine not being able to access bank services made me think about that ordinary mner. I say ordinary only as in, I presume she was not in the public eye.
Two weeks ago I would have rolled my eyes at people suggesting we avoid businesses that don't take cash, but im having a rethink tbh

I'd by any chance that mumsnetter is reading, I hope it worked out ok for you.

It was about a year ago, before there was anything in the media about people being denied bank accounts.

People have bank accounts closed all the time for reasons that don't get disclosed to the account holder - usually because the account has been used for nefarious means. I don't remember the poster but this isn't a new thing?

I guess it has always happened but this poster had no idea why. It is a bit frightening the power banks have. This poster tried to open a new bank a/c and all seemed to be resolved, but then the new bank told her they couldn't go ahead with opening a new a/c. They wouldn't tell her why.
Maybe I'm naive, but I want to believe that this rarely happens!

I remember, was that barclays, and she had just been returned dromedary holiday?

If the bank wouldn't tell her why the account was closed then the chances are that she was suspected of using it for money laundering the proceeds of crime. Telling her that that was the case would be a crime by the bank - "tipping off".

Tipping Off
Under section 333A it is an offence for a person to disclose information, likely to prejudice an investigation [into money laundering], where that information came to the person in the course of business in the regulated sector.

I mean, if you were money laundering it would be no surprise that an account was closed. So if you are surprised, there is a fairly high chance it isn't being done for money laundering.

The CPS - who have published guidance that you are committing domestic abuse if you have photos up of your family taken before your partner says 'I'm a lady'? Who fail to take 99% of rapes to through the courts?

It's an old boys club the CPS. If you think they are on your side, you are sadly mistaken.

This seems to be confusing the issue with transgender rights and sexual offences.

Google "money mules".
