Hi all
Does anyone know the best way to restore tarnished silver jewellery. Is there any hope?

Does it have stones in it or is it all silver?

mrsbyers · 09/07/2023 15:50

No it's just solid silver

Silver polish?

That was my first thought but wasn't sure whether it just made silver shiny or actually removed tarnished bits.

Foil tray, hot water and bicarbonate of soda it fizzes and cleans it up great, gas to be actual silver though not silver coloured, I found the tip online and use it all ghe time now

A silver cloth is a cheap and simple way to keep it clean

Any advice for tarnished silver jewellery that does have inset stones?

Purpleavocado · 09/07/2023 16:15

The bibcarb and boiling water works if you line a cereal boil with tin foil, it's like magic

TroysMammy · 09/07/2023 16:46

I've just tried the foil and bicarbonate method on two old silver chains and it definitely works.

Tara336 · 09/07/2023 16:47

@Purpleavocado yes done it that way too I couldn't believe how well it works

catsnhats11 · 09/07/2023 16:49

The foil and bicarb works amazingly however I noticed jewellery I cleaned like this tarnished really bad, like way worse than it was to begin with, after a few months, not sure why but I don't trust this method anymore.

Mrsjayy · 09/07/2023 16:49

Sit it in cola full sugar over night then rinse off.

Mrsjayy · 09/07/2023 16:51

Actually don't do it over night try it out first see how it works.

Just use silver polish. It's what it was invented for!
Use a toothbrush to work the polish into fiddly bits.
