Neighbours dog barking

My neighbours dog is making a lot of noise barking mostly crying, now he’s howling a bit. It woke me up I thought it was our own downstairs but after some investigating realised it’s across the road.

sounds like he’s inside or in the garage. Their cars are there.

have never heard him make any noise like this before so it’s very unusual. A couple own him.

should I do something / anything? It’s keeping me awake, but then I wouldn’t ever go over if it was say a baby, and my own dog made plenty of noise as a young pup. He’s not a pup though and this is unusual..

Ok scratch that - their light is now on and I saw movement. Flip sake.

You could make a point of asking them if the dog is ok tomorrow as it sounded distressed (and woke you up).

Yes I was thinking of just doing that.

I obviously don’t mind babies / pets making noise but they took SO LONG to deal with it - and then he stopped completely.

how they could’ve slept through it beats me and I’m across the street and a door down. Plus he’s an older dog so doubt it’s a training issue.

Is it a one off I'd just leave it (or mention in passing IF you come across them). They may have inadvertently locked the dog in the garage without realising, snd who knows may have been engrossed in another activity or very heavy sleepers (I can't hear anything that happens out back of my house but can hear the other side clearly).
I have gone to bed not realising I've locked one of the dogs out at my old house. I'd call them both in and if only one comes assume the other is inside. It's only because I'll hear him whimper at the door do I realise (he doesn't bark). Only happened two or three times in 8 years.
