How many slices of bread would you use/would they eat?

DD would still often have a 1 slice of bread sandwich at 11. I would also assume 2 as a default but if you're catering for a particular child, you could just ask them?

Riapia · 08/07/2023 13:15

2 rounds would be standard.
4 rounds would be excessive.
1 round would be unthinkable.

And sandwich by its very nature is 2 slices of bread otherwise it's half a sandwich or two sandwiches 😆. Dd is 10 and would often have half a sandwich as she isn't a big lover of bread. Up to the individual really

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/07/2023 13:18

Ours would have eaten two sandwiches (4 slices of bread)

MoFoFlo · 08/07/2023 13:23

Two, but she’ll often not eat it all. Tiny appetite on the whole, but half a sandwich doesn’t seem enough and I always try and encourage her to eat a bit more.

liveforsummer · 08/07/2023 13:29

Why are you concerned, was she hungry after the sandwich but so tricky wasn't allowed more? People have very different appetites for very different things. My dd10 would eat and adults portion of pasta and ask for more but wouldn't fancy more than half a sandwich

AllOfThemWitches · 08/07/2023 13:37

Hmm my 12yo would say he could eat 2 sandwiches (4 slices) but then would find that 1 sandwich (2 slices) was enough. His eyes are bigger than his belly, so to speak.

@Dacadactyl one Weetabix (bick?!) Is a travesty.
I will admit my comparison is my 4 year old who regularly eats 3 with a banana , he is like a bottomless pit and still only 30th centile for weight so I let him control his portion sizes with meals.

Weetabix are an utter travesty full stop.

On what basis?

On what basis?

Because they're pointless bowl of mushy brown disappointment claiming to be a meal to set you up for the day.

Absolute waste of time, money and saliva. Just think of if all the better, more delicious, more nutritious, satisfyingly tasty and filling foods you could have instead.

BestZebbie · 08/07/2023 20:01

2 slices in a normal circumstance (e.g. served with small amounts of other things such as fruit/veg, crisps etc on the plate/in the lunchbox too).

3-4 slices if that was literally going to be the only food available (emergency rations to be an evening meal eaten on a train journey home if we couldn't find food in town on a day out etc).

fartfacenotfatface · 08/07/2023 20:02

In our house:

DH (manual worker): 4 pieces / 2 rounds sandwiches
Myself and DCs age 7-13: 2 pieces / 1 round sandwiches
Smaller DC: 1 pieces / 1/2 round sandwiches

PhotoExplosion · 08/07/2023 20:54

I would make it with 1, in the full knowledge that she might take a bite, then pull the contents out and leave the bread. She doesn't tend to eat a lot of bread at all so would give her other food to eat.

11 year olds need about the same calories as an adult woman: about 2000. I think boys need a bit more and girls a bit less.
