Sanitary towel help

I am recovering from bowel surgery, and due to have my last drain removed next week. I think I will still be oozing a bit from my bum, not poo just body fluid after surgery, and my consultant suggested I wear a pad for a while.

Can someone please advise me what to buy? I last wore pads (other than maternity ones) in the 1970s, yes I am an old git! I suspect technology has marched on a little since then. I need something not too bulky, really soft because I have a huge area of stitches, and not too scented. Any ideas? Dp will have to get them and if I am not careful he will just return with one pack of every type he sees. I will probably suggest Asda if that helps.

Thank you.

I’m not sure if they can be bought in Asda but I love the Flo Natural Bamboo Ultra Thin pads.

They come in day or night, I usually go for night as I prefer the bigger surface area. They do the job for absorbency for me.

I find them super soft on my skin, almost silky. No bleach and no scent (I don’t think).

I either order through Amazon or can be bought at larger Boots.

Oh you poor thing. Can you get the tena or always incontinence pants? Essentially the entire thing is a pad but you wear them instead of knickers and may be easier?

Depending on how much absorbency you might need I'd say anything from a pant liner (maybe ask him to get large sized) or a Tena lady pad, or pants if it's quite a lot.

Hadn’t thought about online. Duh. Will look at the bamboo ones, thanks. I don’t need anything capable of holding poo, so just something that will deal with a little liquid, but not be hot and sweaty, not pull on my substantial scar etc etc.

Honestly, for unscented comfort, I'd go for Kotex. Added advantage of being thick, so a bit of padding. And they're cheap. For more discreet protection, I'd go for the pants-style ones.

How about a Boots online shop your OH can just pick up for you. Click and collect.

Yes district nurses are visiting, hadn’t thought to ask them, they are here on Monday actually to take my staples out. I think that may be ouchie! Will ask them about pads.

defo don’t need incontinence products, it will be a tiny amount by then, but I do need to keep the area dry.

I think just pant liners are what you need then.. enough absorbency but thin enough to not add bulk.

I hate anything plasticky and sweaty so these are amazing and eco friendly. Two sizes in the pack day/night

Another vote for Flo pads here!

Thanks all, flo bamboo now ordered, next day delivery. Thanks so much for your input, really helpful. The pads I used when I was a kid were belted, or with terribly sticky tape that used to stay on your pants even after washing, trapping your pubes mercilessly. Tampax were definitely the way forward!

Tell him to get ones with wings so you can keep the pad secure and catch any 'overflow' that may happen when you move around.

I like Always because they come in different sizes and thicknesses.
