Can anyone recommend a podcast about world politics and sociology /psychology (not Jordan Peterson) for teen ds?

He found Jordan Peterson podcasts and found them interesting but now after discussing with us we agreed we weren’t sure about them being a good one to listen to. I hadn’t heard of the guy before but had to quickly google and research. My teen ds is fascinated by psychology, world politics, international relations, sociology. Not sure if they are all the right words. It’s topics I know little about. We need to direct him to good quality podcasts. Especially with good role models doing the talking. I suggested the economist maybe as a good start. Hoping someone on here may have others ?

Peterson isn’t bad. I’ve read his books and listened to his lectures. I don’t agree with a lot of his beliefs but it doesn’t mean he’s any less relevant, intelligent or interesting. I don’t think people should spend their lives in an echo chamber, it’s important to listen and try to understand others.

I agree with this. So what if he is right wing? You surely don’t want your child to only listen to one political viewpoint?

Jordan Peterson is also a man who openly cries upon hearing the pain and suffering of others. I don’t agree with all his views but find him an empathetic, compassionate man who sincerely cares for others and their suffering and who is trying to use his life to help others to help themselves to live a better life through developing their best self.

I like him.

Sorry, I’m still feeling aghast at the idea that people who are right wing or religious aren’t to be listened to. That’s a pretty narrow world you are creating for your son!

You're wrong about is good for an interesting re visit of things in modern history. It might go over the head of a 13 year old though.

Some great suggestions on this thread, I am looking forward to trying some new pod's myself!

I like all of Simon Whistlers Youtube channels, he speaks really well but is engaging and witty as well.

A really great podcast (listen to it on Spotify or watch it on YouTube) is Steven Bartlett's Diary of a CEO. In case you don't know, SB is a young entrepreneur who dropped out of uni on day one and started his own business. He went on to sell his business for over £300 million at the age of 26. He has such an interest in people and his interview skills are excellent. He interviews a wide range of people, but the one thing they have in common is that they're at the top of their game. iPlayer is showing ten of them (no adverts) at the moment and the rest are on YouTube or Spotify, as I said.

Our young simply read the national and international papers online. Wide selection of qualified journalists working for an at least minimally accountable news industry - with infinite resources to seek out news and analyse it.

That way they can compare and contrast a variety of interpretations and opinions and understand that not everyone thinks the same thing.

SquirrelSoShiny · 07/07/2023 20:54

He actually did a brilliant interview with Jordan Peterson ironically. It was really moving.

Peterson is a great one for generated long debates around the dinner table!

DC used to listen to The Rest is Politics (one studied psych and the other politics so similar interests to your DS.)
