Period pain magic cures?!

bonfirebash · 07/07/2023 00:36

Anyone ever used a TENS for them and if so any particular one you would recommend?

Can't sleep with the pain. Taken Buscopan, paracetamol and dihydrocodeine which may as well have been sugar pills
Hot water bottle doing nothing

It's cramping pains really low down and going through into my back and all the way down my thighs. Periods are a fucking bullshit design Angry

An orgasm can ease the pain a lot if that's a possibility. Period pain is a nightmare

Sunshineandrainbow · 07/07/2023 00:40

Naproxen helps me

bonfirebash · 07/07/2023 00:45

Forgot I have naproxen too, I did take that this morning but no real difference. Just constant waves of pain and flooding

Yes I've been to the GP before anyone asks! They said it was likely endometriosis, nothing they could do as I won't go back on the pill

God why are gynae issues so badly managed - its 2023 fgs.

Have you had any scans to see why you have such pain etc?

I used to use ibuprofen but the pains down my thighs was awful. It turned out I had fibroids and adenomyosis.

Not sure if you would consider by I had a mirena coil fitted as part of my HRT and it has been a game changer.

You do need to be referred - you could have an ablation but depends on your circumstances.

You have my sympathy.

bonfirebash · 07/07/2023 00:54

Nothing. They found an ovary cyst when I had a kidney scan but that vanished. I've got a pelvic and abdo ultrasound soon for an unrelated issue (possible grumbling appendix or ovary cyst again)
Periods have been bad since I started at 9
Currently have a copper coil but they're no different with or without it, I just don't get on with hormonal contraception hence no pill/mirena. My mums were the same

I've got similar and it's a recent thing despite being nearly 40 - flooding and pain. No point asking the GP when the answer will be suffer, baby, suffer.

bonfirebash · 07/07/2023 10:25

It's dulled down today to mainly average cramping with a nice addition of flooding Confused

Have you tried mefanamic acid? That helped a little when I had adenomyosis. A hysterectomy cured me completely but that's an extreme solution

I have endo, ran out of medical options decades ago so now it would just be surgery again when it gets really bad. I use a TENs machine every month, 2 channel so it comes with 4 pads. I use a plug in heat pad and a massage gun for my back pain as the TENs tends to piss me off after about 12 hours and I get sick of the feeling so I take a break with those. I also have a hot tub which is absolutely amazing although extreme in terms of upkeep and running costs. No meds because I hate how they make me feel. I will occasionally take Migralieve pink because of the anti-nausea but any codeine makes me feel unwell which on top of the pain can be awful.

MaryJean87 · 07/07/2023 10:48

I get the stronger cocodamol on prescription, it's the only thing that helps during the first 2 to 3 days.

JuneOsborne · 07/07/2023 10:51

Hot water bottles. The best.

Also pink migralieve because of the antisickness drug in it. Pp always knocks me sick.

Nospringchix · 07/07/2023 12:08

Hi OP, have you seen gynaecology, or did the gp just order the scan?
It might be an idea to get a referral. One thing they might offer you is an endometrial ablation which is a minor op that would thin the lining of your uterus leading to either lighter periods or no periods at all. However, this can only be offered if your family is complete or you don't want children.
My mum's friend had one and it changed her life.

LovelyQuiche · 07/07/2023 12:11

The only thing that helped me was nurofen and codeine and taking the pain killers as soon as the pain starts. Once the pain has established no amount of painkillers would help so I needed to carry painkillers with me at all times!

Nannyfannybanny · 07/07/2023 12:23

Acupuncture. I had horrendous pain, gut, groin, back,D & V, sometimes passed out. Was told it would improve when I had given birth, nope.

Never seen a consultant. GP ordered scan as they think the groin/hip pain I've been having is my appendix or ovary

I got a TENS on Amazon and it’s amazing - with cocodamol, buscopan, ibruprofen, and a hot water bottle it’s manageable x

YellowHatt · 07/07/2023 14:57

Your GP doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Go back and demand a referral to a gyne consultant. If the pain is this bad currently then a laparoscopy to remove the endo would be on the cards.

YellowHatt · 07/07/2023 14:58

Cold ice packs can help more than hot water bottles. 🧊 Or try swapping them out so you feel hot cold hot cold.

And I found these people really good at giving advice when I had a shit GP and thought I just had ‘period pain’ too.

OnToTheNextOneOntoTheNextOne · 07/07/2023 16:01

You have my sympathy. I got through a difficult birth with minimal pain relief and I think part of the reason for that was that I was so used to being in terrible pain every month with my period.

TENS machine was great for birth pains - wish I had tried years before for period.

Having a baby did fix my painful periods, so if you plan on starting a family some day there is hope things will be better after.

bonfirebash · 07/07/2023 22:30

I'll try and see the GP once I've sorted out my thyroid as I'm waiting for that at the minute
Keep telling myself I can't have that many periods left in my life but it's been 24hrs of this severe pain now Angry

OP posts:
headcheffer · 07/07/2023 22:33

Naproxen. But it's cumulative so you need to keep taking it to see an effect not just take one. The one I have you can take one, then another 4 hours later for severe pain and then one every 12 hours. It helps.

Omg never heard anyone else say this... but yes, this! Best solo though, not a particularly erotic experience
