I need a second job, but how and what can I do?

I don't want to go into details here but I'm 'getting my ducks in a row' at the moment. One thing I do know is I will need to earn more. I have a decent job paying around average wages (salary, full time, permanent). I'm currently working through a development plan for promotion but that could be 18 months away.

I need a second job, but I don't think anything fits with having kids and no childcare. I work 9-5 at the moment 4 days a week, but I'll be 5 days from September. So ideally I need something that can be done from home at night because I'll have no childcare in the evenings.

I have no interest in various MLM's (younique, tropic etc) I really think what I'm looking for is impossible so I'm quite realistic that there may be nothing. But worth asking on here in case anyone does have the answer!

The OP has literally said she can't do that as she has no childcare.

Anyone else you know who would do you a childcare swap? Like she works Sat mornings, you work Sat afternoons or something?

What are your skills? Anything computer based you can do, like proofreading, tutoring etc?

@princesspeppax no childcare unfortunately. My mum already does some school pick ups for me so I don't want her to do more (although she may be glad of a break from my dads snoring)!

@Miekle not that I can think of. Most of my friends have adult children now or uni age.

I have good computer skills, my job is a weird mix of admin/finance/data quality. I do report building and have in the past had PA roles so could do proofreading. I'll have a Google, thank you!

Bookkeeping for small businesses

Business support, what would have been called a typing pool? We have overnight bs and as long as the work is done doesn't matter what time it is done. I have people in my team in US and India as well as overnight in the uk so all hours are covered.

There are tax implications though.

Remote pa? Transcription? They may not be 'regular' enough though in terms of income. Have you got any subjects you'd be competent enough in to tutor?

Florencenotflo · 06/07/2023 15:20

Thank you @cocksstrideintheevening I'll look at that, I'd never heard of some of these things so I'll seriously look into them.

@LG93 not confidently no. I know my job and the things I use for my job, but they are fairly niche I guess. I wouldn't say I'm qualified enough to teach.

Clerk to school governor board? It usually means you have to attend one evening meeting per term but the rest of the work is done from home and on your own schedule. You can be a Clerk for more than one governing body if time allows. The e teach website should show current vacancies.

You can teach English as a second language online with no qualifications (they train you). Worth having a look into. Someone I know does it via 'my tutor'
Or writing online articles? You can do this freelance.
