Medicine refusing dd - so frustrating

Dd is poorly at the minute, bit of a cold and headache.

She absolutely refuses medicine, she has never taken it, not disguised in anything, won't take tablets, calpol, eye drops, dentist is a no-no - anything vaguely medical related she will not do at all.

She is 7, and nothing traumatic has happened to her in any medical way at all so I really don't know why, but she's been like this since she was a baby.

I'm currently on night 2 of no sleep, she cries all night, says she's poorly, shouts etc, but she will not do anything to try and get better. She's sleeping now, but I have other dc so am up for them and just running on empty.

I take her into bed with me, give her warm drinks, hot water bottles etc, but the one thing that will make her better is the one thing she won't do.

If anyone has any tips at all I would be grateful, if not then some sympathy would be lovely.

Oh god my dd 9 is like this

Tbh I now have to threaten removal of privileges (ie iPad use) to get her to take medicine

Like your dd, there's absolutely no reason for it ! I feel your pain x

My DS8 is exactly the same. I feel you! No amount of bribery or cajoling will make any difference to him, he's too strong for me to hold down and force medicine into him. Even at the age of 2 and below, it was difficult.
He had an accident a few years ago, and needed an operation to fix a wound in his face. He wouldn't let anyone near him in A&E or in theatre. It took 5 of us to hold him down to get him anaesthetised.
I dread him getting poorly.
We've been practising swallowing tablets, which I hope will make a difference. We just practice with tic tacs. He's been doing okay so far.

Have you tried the Calpol tablets as you can dissolve these in a few tablespoons of water first, and then add it to a glass of squash? Maybe don’t tell her Calpol is in it?

I've threatened, cried, begged and pleaded, reasoned, bribed....

NOTHING works at all.

I tried half a paracetamol last night and she just spat it out, screaming that she will never take medicine ever.

Then she will just cry and scream all night 😭 it would take 2 seconds to take it, then she would feel better.

I don't even know what I would do if she had to go to hospital for any reason, she just wouldn't cope at all, they would probably have to sedate her the whole time.

Yes, I've tried every type of tablet and every brand and flavour of medicine, I never tell her when I've tried to disguise medicine in anything, juice, milkshake, yoghurt, smoothies.... she always knows. Not sure how, but she will happily drink everything, then I hand her the medicine one and she won't.

I thought they would work for her, but her medicine aversion won.

We had one of those and we ended up with occasional suppositories and just no medication. At 11 she has finally consented to some calpol. Fortunately she has not been ill enough to have really needed strong meds.
