Any recruitment consultants here or similar?

I have an interview coming up for a role as a recruitment consultant, which could make me more money than I have ever earned before.

They usually ask for someone that has a background in sales - but I don't. However they have still offered me an interview.

I have no experience at all.

Literally any hints, tips, tricks or info would be very, very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Please could you elaborate?

it is a sales job at the end of the day.

you are juggling 3 plates at the same time - getting jobs in, getting candidates and filling the jobs with your candidates. although you have to keep candidates happy, it's the employer they pays you, so they are going to be your priority.

My husband has been a recruiter for 15 years, it's hard work if it's agency. It's sales but people are unpredictable so they can drop out and you have aggressive targets. In house recruitment is less hard core

I am a recruitment consultant for the civil service and am certainly not a charlatan. I started this position after 10 years working in admin for John Lewis and had no sales background. Is the role with an agency or inhouse? Not sure I could work for an agency and certainly think its a lot more presured.

Some companies are absolute shitbags to work for.

It's a good job if they don't make you call hundreds of people are rings bells in the office when you get interview requests etc.

And ring bells

They're brutal chew you up and spit you out places.

They want to know you're resilient, easily trained. Tenacious. If they tell you "no" they want you to argue why they should say "yes".

Don't give a meek interview.

Outside of interview prep - do seriously consider if you could do such a demanding job. Are you able to hear rejections many more times than have a positive interaction? Are you able to work in an office full of sharks and mentally fist fight coworkers for your bonus cheques? That was always the worst of it for me.

Unless you’re very thick skinned, don’t get down easily, money focused, a bit ruthless, don’t do it.
I’ve worked in a highly specialised area of headhunting for both an agency and self employed for over 20 years, and working in agencies nearly made me have a break down. It’s intense, target driven work, and there’s no let up.
