Small present for 7 year old girl

I would like to buy a small gift for a 7 year old girl's birthday. I'm not aware of any particular interests that she has. What sort of thing might go down well? DS is 7 months so I have no idea about what older children are into!

She also loves Barbie / Chelsea and stickers.

These were unexpected hits with 8 year old boy and 6 year old girl last week.

Very satisfying feel and sound. Been in constant use ever since.
Maybe by the adults too. Ahem.

Works well as a de-stress/fiddle toy, too.

Oh, and kids' optical illusion books always go down well.

Bought this as a birthday present for my kids friend. She brought one to school and was the most popular kid in class that day, and all the girls were asking her where she got it from and bought some themselves as well.

Oh my good lord they’re terrifying 🤣

I would personally go for a colouring book (a more adult/mindfulness type one) and some nice pencils or pens. Or, if you think her parents wouldn’t mind, a box of chocolates. Proper ones, not malteasers etc. DSD is a bit older, but thinks it is very sophisticated to have her own box of chocolates.

I think you're just being more "pick me" than you realised. (Pick-Me Women are those who pride themselves in being different to other women, usually with loud, demonstrative statements that deliberately go against what's typically expected of female behaviour). The vast majority of 7 year old girls I know love glittery, rainbows, unicorns and crafting. It's one of the easiest ages to shop for because they have very simple, clearly defined interests. Especially if it's someone the OP doesn't know well and presumably doesn't interact with regularly, a token gift that is typical for a small girl seems more appropriate than using it as an opportunity to make a statement about gender roles in society.

Aahahaha. Alright Aunt Lydia!

@SimonsCow Lego Friends uses EXACTLY the same bricks as all the other themes.
It is 100% compatible.
The only difference is the style of the figures but they are same height as minifigs and can share hair pieces and hats.

Russian stacking doll set.

Colour change markers, books, Lego

Small as in low value or size because it needs to go in the post?
Either way Dobble is gender neutral and small in both size and cost!

Ispiltmytea · 06/07/2023 12:24

Don't get any bath bomb kits/painting unicorns etc. we have so many as they are a go to gift I think.

I have a 7 year old DD. I'd go for one of those squishy water bottles from smiggle

SimonsCow · 06/07/2023 12:31

I know they are compatible but you seem to get a lot more faffy little pieces in Lego Friends sets and not many straight up bricks that the kids can then sure for building houses etc from their imagination. We’ve got tonnes of the stuff. Some people like to keep Lego sets together though so may not be useful for everyone.

I have a 7 year old girl, and she would love most of the things mentioned here. For her friends' birthdays, I tend to go for craft type stuff - friendship bracelet sets, mandala colouring, hama bead sets (or generally any bead making stuff), aquarelle paint sets, fluffy notebooks (ones with locks are always popular), pens, Lego friends, anything Harry Potter.

I totally agree - it's an easy age to buy for! And I also agree that no matter how far away from the pink glittery stuff you go, they seem to gravitate towards it.....

The card game UNO is ages 7 and up - it's good fun.

I know the op said ‘girl’ but jeez, rainbow, glitter, jewellery making.. I have a 7 yo boy and I didn’t think of any of these. I was thinking Lego, play dough, mini science kit/slime. Are we more sexist than we realised??*

I have a girl and a boy and she and all her friends go for the rainbows and the glitter. I think children are born with bad taste!

Mammyofonlyone · 13/07/2023 14:23

I'd buy a Eugy. They are a lovely gift, and not expensive

WoolyMammoth55 · 13/07/2023 14:34

I was a girly kids but only have boys myself. I've been buying these in bulk for 6 and 7 yo girls' birthday parties, I would have loved it when I was that age! Seem to always go down well, currently £8.99 but sometimes on offer lower...

Crafts or Lego Dots are a solid bet!
