Isle of Wight for a few days in August

Hello all, we've got a last-minute chance to spend three days in IoW in mid-August and would appreciate any ideas of where to stay. Two adults - possibly one dog! - no mobility issues but would love a sandy beach and no amusements/arcades.

TIA

Anyone?

Anyone know Ryde?

Try Colwell Bay near Freshwater. It’s less touristy than other places. We had a great holiday there a few years ago. We also stay in Bembridge and St Helen’s. Cafes and nice restaurants and pubs.

I like Ventnor on the S coast, small town, great little walk to the wonderful Steephill Cove.

Lovely long undeveloped sandy beach, Compton Beach.

Fab views from Tennyson Down and the Needles Battery for walks, many places to visit, Roman, Victorian, Natural.

Colwell Bay is lovely. And easy to get to from the lymington ferry. But really there are so many beautiful beaches - anywhere you stay Will be lovely.

Colwell is lovely. Nodes Point over at St.Helens is a nice campsite with beach access.

Are you looking for a campsite type place or a house?

Cowes is fun in the summer, lots of boats to watch. Likewise Seaview. The Island isn't big, so you can get to sandy beaches easily from wherever you stay.

Ryde has a completely fabulous beach and I love the quirky town. It does have amusement arcades although these are naff rather than gritty. Ryde does have a reputation for being rough but by mainland standards it’s pretty tame. A few drunks yelling in the evening are common sort of thing.
If you stay in Ryde avoid staying too close to the Hovercrafts. They are noisier than the drunks ( voice of experience). But there’s plenty of places close to the beach further along.
We did a yurt in Bembridge overlooking the harbour which was fab and it’s a little walk to the beach at St Helens.

We were in Yarmouth a few weeks ago- such a lovely quaint little town. Lots of little shops, bars, restaurants. Bus service is fab so lots of options to travel to beaches.

That's a point, will you have a car?

Itsreallyhot · 04/07/2023 19:29

Colwell is nice but it's going to be packed with family's with small kids in August
I live up the road it's heaving in the holidays we avoid it and parking is a nightmare on a busy day

Tennyson downs for a nice dog walk, Needles pleasure boats take dogs a lot of steps though but worth it

Brook beach is dog friendly at low tide you have the dinosaur footprints towards Compton

Shanklin chine is stunning

Steephill cove amazing unsure if dog friendly though

Yaverland beach
