Has anyone does this? Really trying to keep the cost of luggage down this holiday as it's so expensive. Seen a few youtube videos and it looks like a good idea.

Will you have access to a vacuum cleaner to pack it for the way back?

PhotoExplosion · 03/07/2023 12:25

What @NannyR said!!

You need the rollable bags, they won't get as much air out as the vacuum ones but at least you can use them both ways!

Hahaha genius reply from nanny

It will still weigh the same. Bring half of what you think you'll use. I can't be the only one who has returned from a trip not having worn or used half what I brought!

Also, the vacuum cleaner point above!

Can’t you just pack less? It’s a holiday not Paris fashion week

ShirleyPhallus · 03/07/2023 12:31

One of the most nuts replies I’ve ever seen from one of those useful tips threads was the person who said you should take all your skanky old knickers on holiday in suitcases that are falling apart so you can chuck them all away there and return without paying for luggage

i still think of that sometimes

lalaloopyhead · 03/07/2023 12:41

If you are flying, it will weigh the same so no saving surely? There must be a weight limit on those little cabin cases too?
We vacuum packed our luggage when we went to France, but that was for space wise rather than cost.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 03/07/2023 12:47

It's will still be the same weight even if the volume is less but if it's based on luggage size not weight then yep why not. We have done it when flying long haul as had plenty of weight spare but not space so it meant we could take gifts to family in Australia

As for no vacuum buy one of these Wink

I do that. Old knickers, socks and boxer shorts of DH.
Wear and bin, especially if staying in an airport hotel the night before your flight.
