C section severe adhesions

Anyone had a c section with severe adhesions?

The adhesions are caused by previous infection/surgeries, Ive had 1 c section which took a long time (hour and a half) due to this.
Never had any symptoms from my adhesions pre c-section but now I do get odd sensations in my abdomen during certain yoga movements or needing a poo etc

Im contemplating a second child but honestly the thought of the increased risk of complications put me off. Obstetrician doesn’t say much other than yes you are at increased risk of complications but obviously wont put a figure on it.

Would have to be a planned section rather than attempting a VBAC as wouldn’t be able to risk an emergency c section were time was of the essence.

Anyone had similar? What were your experiences?

Hi Op, I have had two c sections. The first one was a ‘classical’ which is where the incision is made up and down on the uterus, however the external incision was lateral. I had to have this emergency section under general anaesthetic as I had severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome at 27 weeks, and my DS has to be born. He weighed only 1 and a half lbs but sadly he died aged 6 weeks.

I was told that should I become pregnant again, I would need to have an elective as previously having had a classical incision puts massive strain on the scar when you are pushing if VBAC. I had a textbook pregnancy second time around and took low dose aspirin to prevent the pre-eclampsia. I was booked in for an elective but five days before my waters broke, so I got to the hospital, and they agreed to do my c section within a few hours. I was so afraid of going into labour. Anyway, I was given a spinal and they started the c section, only to find I had bowel adhesions, which were blocking access to my uterus. I expect that was down to the scar tissue being up and down rather than across? The two registrars on duty called a general surgeon from the main hospital and he said he would tell them what to do! They refused and then called the on-call obstetrician to come, who performed the surgery - disconnected my bowel from the scar tissue and then finally delivered my DS 2 at 04:50am. I had been open for about one hour and 20 mins at this stage, the spinal was nearly wearing off, and a GA team we’re on hand to put me under. Luckily they just managed in time! I lost two litres of blood. I recall the obstetrician telling me that should I feel pain in the abdomen in future that I should get it looked at. A couple of years ago, I did have some pains for a good few days and was worried my bowel was twisted or something. The DR checked me over and concluded it was not anything serious. I didn’t have any more children as I was afraid of risking my health again, what with the previous pre-eclampsia as well as the adhesions, plus I was over 40 at this stage. (I do believe Victoria Beckham has had four c sections though).

Thanks for sharing, sorry to hear about your son 🤍

During my previous surgeries I had vertical incisions, so sounds similar to you & also had to have the consultant come down to complete my section.

I wish I had a clearer idea of relative risk but it’s impossible to get a straight answer from anyone!

@Mirrormirror2 thank you x
Yes, its a difficult one. I had no idea about the adhesions when I decided to try for DS2, it was just discovered as I was operated on. I was more worried about the pre-eclampsia and HELLP happening again but luckily things went ok in that respect. Are you maybe able to get another opinion from another consultant perhaps?
