Period app for tweens

Can anyone recommend a period app for 11/12 year olds please?

A lot of them are geared towards fertility which isn't appropriate for someone that age so anything more relevant to their age would be great.

What’s wrong with a bag of tampons in their bag? Why add more issues?

Weird response. It's not adding issues, it tracks their cycle and gives them some idea of when their period is due so they feel a bit more in control. I wish it had existed when I first started. DD uses MyCalendar.

Eh? She's recently started so her periods are very irregular so she wants to see when/if they start to become more regular. Why would that be an issue?

???

I had a period tracker as a teen. It was useful for knowing when to expect my period. It's also useful if you go to the doctor and they ask when your last period was.

I used PinkPad but it shutdown, then I used Flo. It does have a lot of fertility related features but I just didn't use them. I didn’t need them as an adult any more than I did as a teen haha.

SoupDragon · 02/07/2023 15:54

DD (now 17) has used Flo from the start I think.

I guess it's the modern equivalent of the diary I used to mark my cycle in!

Totaly · 02/07/2023 15:55

Then used the calendar on your phone? Or listen to your body?

Bearpawk · 02/07/2023 15:56

Do they have an iPhone op?
I use the cycle tracker in the health app on my phone. It's really useful.

paininhell · 02/07/2023 16:03

My daughter uses period tracker the app picture is of a flower. She finds it really useful so she has a idea of when she is next due on because she's only recently started in March. It's easy to use and no messing round like some of the ones we looked at.

She also likes to use it so she can prepare more if she has an event going on around the same time it says she's due on.

What's wrong with an app? And why do you have a bee in your bonnet?

No, Samsung but I can see if they do something similar actually.

Thanks for your recommendations I'll have a look at those

Not Flo. It has a forum on there which is not suitable for tweens.
Period tracker is boring to look at but at least doesn't have the forums. Does have things like "intimacy" stickers though.
The apple health one is very basic but I think that's a good thing!

allofthelove · 02/07/2023 16:21

My 10 year old started her period . We use P Tracker app , yes it tracks fertility etc but she mainly uses it for her period and it's pretty accurate .

Also she uses period pants two days leading up to her period just in case she comes on early.

I'd like to know how a 10 year old can listen to their body . It's something you learn over time. There's absolutely nothing wrong using a tracker to help so we both have an idea of when's due on.

meowmeow11106 · 02/07/2023 16:24

I am 17 and I use the health app on my iphone

All period apps have stuff about fertility and ovulation - you can just ignore it and put in your periods instead and symptoms

Before that I used flo

Lemevoir · 02/07/2023 16:26

I've downloaded an app called Magic Girl for my tween. It is specifically marketed at tweens/teens but still has a fertility/ovulation test tracker.

You can track moods/sleep etc which is good.

Mydustymonstera · 02/07/2023 16:34

Drip is good - super basic and no mention of fertile times. For my own mental health I needed not to see that every time I logged on!!!

GAWI · 02/07/2023 16:45

Me and my teenage daughter use ovuview. You can turn the fertility dots off, but I think it's quite useful for her to notice whether she may or may not be ovulating.

I wish there'd been period tracker apps when I was her age.

Agreed - I had lots of embarrassing moments at school due to not knowing

Yeah I agree. I suppose some girls may find it helpful if they're prone to forgetting, but there's an app for everything these days and it's unnecessary. Most girls/ women know their own cycle if it's regular and if its not then I'm not sure an app would be much use anyway.

KenAdams · 02/07/2023 19:02

MN is insane sometimes. High expectations of an 11 year old!

Thanks to everyone who suggested Apple Health - Samsung have one too and it does include a period tracker so we're sorted :)

A period tracker app is a great way to track and understand your cycle. As a PMDD sufferer since I was 14, I wish they’d had something like that to help me, then it wouldn’t taken 16 years to understand and get it diagnosed. Some women, or do I need to say ‘those who menstruate’ suffer with physical and mental anguish for almost half their cycle. I suspect the two of you breeze through the month as you both sound clueless.

Me and my DD use Clue. Just the basic version. Also tracks symptoms like sleep/cramps etc. She's far from regular but it does help her understand her body. Myself included - I check the dates and realize why I'm such a miserable bitch 😂

pinkmamalama · 23/05/2025 20:04

DD is using the Luna app for periods but also puberty and wellbeing understanding in general. Very happy with it, came recommended by the school. I am comfortable with the topics and the app is very refreshing for a teen girls, not pink and not too clinical. It's created with experts and there's no giving advice to each other like some of the other apps out there.
