10am-12pm birthday party, what food?

Hi!

My son's 6th birthday party is going to be 10am - 12pm at a forest school doing den building, roasting marshmallows etc.

I'm a bit stuck on food as it's a bit early for lunch so I wondered if I could just do popcorn/crisps/fruit skewers as snacks?

Would you expect a proper lunch buffet?

Our Infant school goes for lunch at 11.30 (small dinner hall, big school). It may be that the DC don't think it too early for lunch!

KnackeredBack · 01/07/2023 14:00

Party lunch buffet served at 1130 and yes, if I were parents, I would not then expect to have to feed lunch afterwards.

If there’s a fire for toasting marshmallows, could you also cook something in it…..sausages/hot dogs to pop in a roll?

Sounds like a great party! I would do lunch but it doesn’t need to be huge, sandwiches crisps/popcorn and fruit does the job.

Flatandhappy · 01/07/2023 14:11

It’s a two hour party, I would think the kids would prefer to play than eat. That time to me is “morning tea” if anything so I wouldn’t expect lunch, toasting marshmallows and something to drink would be fine.

Donuts croissants fruit kebabs pancakes

ChittyBangabang · 01/07/2023 14:18

I find some kids hoover food so best to have lots of buffet style pick up stuff on hand

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 01/07/2023 14:20

Flask of hotdogs, hotdog rolls, ketchup.

Marshmallows to toast and fairy cakes.

Done.

Feed lunch food at 11:30
sandwiches
sausage rolls
crisps
hummous and crudités
biscuits

Susuwatariandkodama · 01/07/2023 14:32

Easy things like sandwiches, crisps, mini sausages/sausage rolls, some sweet treats, veggie sticks, plenty of water/juice etc. If you have cooking facilities you could do mini pizzas and hotdogs.

UsingChangeofName · 01/07/2023 14:47

I'd expect you to feed them, and that they wouldn't need lunch when they got home.
It sounds like a hots dogs kind of a party to me. Just set up for it.

Positive41 · 01/07/2023 22:28

Feed them lunch at 11.30. Hotdogs would be great. I would expect lunch at this time. Have a great day

LolaSmiles · 01/07/2023 22:32

I'd probably expect something savoury available, if not a full party lunch then a substantial snack.

Hotdogs and buns would be a good option with some snack options.

By the time people get home from the party they're likely to have very hungry and grumpy children if there's not some food.

liveforsummer · 01/07/2023 22:34

Dc are 10 and 13 now so been to many or tied at many times of day at this point. Never been to one that did not provide enough food to count as a meal so most will be expecting dc to have been fed when they collect. Hotdogs do sound like a good easy option in this case

Offyoupoplove · 01/07/2023 22:34

The children will happily eat lunch from 11 onwards. Just serve lunch.

SoftSheen · 01/07/2023 22:35

Give them lunch at 11.30. They'll be hungry!

Motherofmonsters · 01/07/2023 23:34

Thanks everyone, I will do something more substantial
