Low UPF - what to drink?

Mylobsterteapot · 01/07/2023 11:51

Trying to reduce UPFs from my diet. Food is going ok, but I am stuck for drinks. I don’t like tea or coffee, the only things left that aren’t UPFs are water or fruit juice. I don’t mind water, but it gets a bit dull, and fruit juice is very sugary to drink loads of. Any ideas?

A fruit infuser water bottle might be a go? Putting your favourite fruit down the middle and chucking it in the fridge overnight makes for a sweet and healthy beverage :)

I was going to say infused water bottle too.

I honestly just drink water (and green tea, although I know you said you don’t like tea).

You get used to it.

I like the cold brew fruity tea bags in summer, or a drink of half juice half sparkling water

What did you drink before?

CatsSnore · 01/07/2023 12:21

I think lots of juices are classed as UPF. Orange juice is.

I drink a lot of sparkling water (from glass bottles not plastic).

Fantina · 01/07/2023 12:23

I squeeze fresh oranges and top them up with cold water and ice to make it a bigger, taller drink when I’m not drinking tea and coffee and water. You could do milkshakes with fresh/frozen berries as a treat.

Rocks squash doesn't seem too bad but it is pricey.

Those cans of Dash are good when they're on offer.

merryhouse · 01/07/2023 12:40

Peppermint? Camomile? Redbush? Nettle?

I drink a lot of PLJ with sparkling water, though I suspect a lot of people will tell me I'm ruining my teeth.

KnittedCardi · 01/07/2023 12:58

I drink cordials. In the general scheme of things they are pretty much as you would make at home. Yes, they have added sugar, but no other nasties. I buy Bottlegreen and use about a finger in a tall glass.

I have made both homemade grape juice, and elder flower cordial at home. To me, if you can make it at home, and the shop bought ingredients are the same, it's processed, but not ultra.

Kombucha?

Mylobsterteapot · 01/07/2023 20:04

I currently drink squash, hot chocolate, chai latte, milkshake, oat milk, some fruit juice.

Milk?
Or dilute fruit juice.

PinkPlantCase · 01/07/2023 20:50

You can make your own hot chocolate power by mixing icing sugar and coco powder together.

For squashes you can buy some with very few ingredients.

Milkshake you could wizz up some actual strawberries (or other fruit) with some milk.

Dash drinks are considered Ultra Processed Food (UPF) due to the E296 - Malic Acid

INeedNewShoes · 15/11/2023 20:31

Hot water with lemon in it or with fresh mint in it.

Hot chocolate made with milk and a square of pure dark chocolate

smilesup · 15/11/2023 20:36

I have
Mint tea (mint leaves, dash of honey)
Water (still and sparkling)
Lemon and hot water
Smoothies (usually cucumber/beetroot/carrot and ginger) in the nutribullet
