If you work from home, do you have an office space?

I know it’s a luxury to have one but I do wish I had an office space of sort.

Bother is that we live in a 2 bed house with two rooms upstairs and two rooms down, and are reluctant now to upsize given interest rates and how expensive life is getting. We don’t have kids yet but hoping to try soon and so I don’t want to get too used to having the spare bedroom as my office if I will then have to uproot everything from there very soon

Currently I work from the kitchen table (for meetings) and the sofa the rest of the time, sometimes even outside if its sunny enough as we have lovely garden furniture. I feel unusual in this. I only work from home two days a week maximum and I’m in the office the rest of the time so don’t know if it’s a huge deal. What’s everyone elses set ups?

No, I have to work at the kitchen table. It's an absolute pain but no other space in the house unfortunately.

My husband has a desk set up in our spare room as he needs a lot of space.

I have an area in the corner of our bedroom with a desk and chair.

We tried to share the spare room office but it was horrendous 😂 He's just so bloody chatty!

It suits me to have the desk in our room as I often wake up and log on and do an hour or so before the kids wake up.

I have a desk and chair (plus monitor etc) in a corner of our spare bedroom.

if you have an unused bedroom upstairs why are you not putting a small desk in there so you can work properly?
sitting on the sofa with your laptop is bad for your positive and general well-being.

an office space doesn’t have to take up much room or be a luxury, and if you’re yet to be pregnant you are looking at at least another 18mths before you’d need the spare room for a baby and if you buy a small desk then you might be able to fit in your bedroom afterwards.

I have a garden office and it's the best extension by far we have had (and we've had a few!) I use two monitors plus a laptop as a third screen and so needed this space after struggling with a camping table in the kitchen for the first year of the pandemic. I WFH four days a week and everyone just wanted me out of the house! I appreciate I'm lucky as many people just don't have this kind of space to work from.

I work from the sofa 4 days a week, my laptop on my knee. Sometimes if I have a lot of paper work I will sit at the dining table but it's not comfy for long periods. My manager is aware and my DSE assessment I've just done I didn't tell the whole truth although my manager is fully aware of my work set up as I've had multiple conversations with her about it.

Are you not able to go to the office to work? Or has the office been got rid of?

I have a home office which is great. The fact I can shut the door when necessary is invaluable, otherwise I couldn't do it especially if the kids are home when I'm working.

I did work from the kitchen table for a while and put all my equipment away every day as I didn't want it in the house, which could be a bit tiresome.

Use the spare room. Even if you got pregnant tomorrow you won't have a baby for nine months and then it is recommended they are in with you for a minimum of six months so needing a nursery is ages away.

I don’t understand why desks are better to work from than tables, aren’t they roughly the same height?

It's the chair for me that makes the difference. I am too low on the kitchen chair. Apart from looking awful I would not be able to get my desk chair under the table enough due to the lip underneath. I like to be tucked right in and then raise the seat so my elbows are level with the desk.

The box room in our house is my office/wardrobe room - wardrobe and chest of drawers on one side, my desk under the window.

In your case I'd just use the spare room - you're ages off any potential baby needing their own bedroom.

I am lucky in that my daughter moved out about 8 years ago so luckily have her old room set up as a study still has a bed in it I use when my husband snores!!
I have a large corner desk in there with 2 monitors and a laptop keyboard and mouse. I am now a contractial homeworker. When we first went into lockdown I.just had a small tablet and used to sit up at the dining table working on that.my dining table is in my conservatory so really difficult to see the screen so much better now
