Birthday party ideas - 6 year old

My Ds is turning 6 soon and he wants a party with some friends from school. We've thought of having a party at home or at a soft play or jump place but wondering about any other ideas? There haven't been many parties at school, it's quite a deprived area so I don't know if that's why. He also isn't too keen on big groups of people and definitely doesn't like entertainers. Anyone got any slightly different ideas that work for this age group? Ideally not costing a fortune!

  • Laser quest and pizza
  • Cinema and McDonalds
  • soft play and food (not a party package)
  • party at your house, you could hire a bouncy castle

Does he want the whole class? In which case definitely outsource with hall and bouncy castle or soft play/trampoline park. We also did hall at leisure centre which had pedal karts and bouncy castle. I’ve enjoyed parties at home more but I like doing themes - we did knights and dragons at that age with lots of outdoor vaguely jousting type games and (toy) archery. Or build a bear at home (you can get kits, wouldn’t go within a mile of the shop). Baker Ross has loads of themed craft kits - things like shrinkle keyrings have gone down well. Decorate your own cupcake or mini pizza? Nothing wrong with traditional party games - pass the parcel, musical chairs, the chocolate game etc. packet of balloons, lots of shrieking children, job done.

If he is turning 6:

Our local gymnastics centre does an AMAZING cheap party (lots of games and use of various bits of the equipment)

Our local leisure centre has good football parties and we know someone who did their own football party on a field near their house

so maybe look and see why local sports facilities offer parties

It really depends what you have nearby and how many friends he wants to include….
trampoline park
clip n climb
scooter park
cinema and pizza
games in the woods and bbq
football party
museum trip and lunch out

You could do a classic children's party.

At home. About 8 kids. Pass the parcel. Musical bumps. Pin the tail on the donkey. Let them play with balloons. Party tea. Birthday cake. Happy Birthday. Everyone goes home.

Sometimes less is more.

My nephew had 4 or 5 friends for a birthday play date - they all walked home from school together, played with Lego and board games and had pizza and birthday cake for tea before going home. His request!

Second the climbing place, ours does a great party!

Thanks for the ideas. He wants to invite around 9 of his class so that will be 10 5/6 year olds altogether and his little brother will be there and 2 of the older ones friends have siblings who the younger one is friends with so three 4 year olds too. Assuming they all come which is certainly not guaranteed around here!
He's into rugby but nowhere to do a party for that around here, his club don't do them. He's never been to a climbing place but he's generally quite cautious so I don't think a clip and climb would work well.
Cinema could be a good idea, he loves films. Not sure if they are a little young to do that yet though.
I'm leaning towards an old school, at home party with some games, pizza and cake.
