Our school is on strike next Wednesday the same day as there due to go swimming the kids will be off school so there is no swimming lessons, we have to pay in block advance payment for the terms swimming its £4 a session. I asked today about it will we get reimbursed or paid towards our next term for swimming the receptionists had absolutely no interest and was like well no we don't normally ill get back to you im really annoyed by this.
I know its only£4 but x that by 60 kids thats a huge amount of money they have gained. We paid for a service and arnt going to get it so surely they should return that money. Its not our issues your teachers are on strike.

Do you agree or not ?

I'd be fairly confident that you'll get your money back tbh. The receptionist probably didn't know and will find out and get back to you.

I recently had 2 quid refunded from a school event that didn't go ahead last term and I'd forgotten all about it.

Have the school gained it? Or has it been paid out to the pool/bus that the school use to take them swimming? That’s what would have happened to it in my school.
Do they have their own pool?

Why are you annoyed when the school hasn't actually told you that they're keeping your money, rather the receptionist said that they'd check and get back to you? It's a bit premature.

arethereanyleftatall · 29/06/2023 22:15

It's a bit unclear from your last message if they have their own pool.

If they don't, it's too late notice, so they'd still have to pay for the pool space and for the swimming teachers to the external company.

AHugeTinyMistake · 29/06/2023 22:16

If the school are able to refund you they will.

These sorts of things all take time to sort out.

It's possible the pool won't refund them but until they've had time to look into it you'll have to be patient

Yes I'd imagine the money has been paid upfront to the swimming pool and the school won't get it back.

We pay monthly for swimming lessons at leisure centre and if we miss one we don't get the money back as the pool is still open and teachers there.
I'd imagine it's the same in this case. It's not the swim school's fault teachers are striking.

Frustrating for you as it's not your decision to miss the lesson but not sure what the school can do.

The only possible option I can think of is saying you can take your child to the pool yourself so they can do the lesson and collect them when it's done.

They’ve probably already paid the sports centre. The sports centre staff will still be at work. They shouldn’t be losing any wage’s should they?

Like others, I presume that the school haven't gained any money at all.
I expect they have block booked a block of lessons and probably won't get a refund if they don't turn up.

However, as others have said, the member of staff you spoke to has said she will investigate, which sounds like she is being helpful to me.
