Spray tan when I’m as white as a sheet

Calling super pale people who have had a spray tan before!

I’ve never had one (at the grand old age of 42). Going on holiday with my family and I’m the super pale freckly type. I think I would feel a bit more confident in a bikini with a very slight tan. But I just don’t tan naturally. Am I mad to consider it? Can you even get a subtle spray tan or is it orange only?

where should I go? How long will it last? Will it look streaky?

Don't bother, do your own- plenty of great fake tanning products out there. Bondi Sands mousse in the light colour is my favourite, but other people will have other recommendations I'm sure.

Do it yourself!

Bondi sands do a spray tan oil and it is amazingggg. You can apply with a mitt (recommended) but, I recently went on holiday and forgot my mitt, my hands worked a treat with the formula - zero streaks (just give your hands a good wash after, avoiding the top and wrists).

I've tried so many fake tans and it is the best. No streaks and lasts a few days and drys so quickly.

Yours sincerely,
A very, very pale gal.

I very pale and have never been able to do a good self tan that doesn't make me look orange or streaky.

This. Plus you have to keep applying it on holiday so you smell of the stuff all the time and the sheets do too.

Accept your paleness is my recommendation.

I'm very pale and only had 1 spray tan for an event, I found it went quite patchy and looked awful after a few showers, I wouldn't have wanted to wear a bikini or costume looking like that! I'd invest in a good fake tan and do it yourself, I find when it washes it's much more even too

Usernamenotavailab · 28/06/2023 20:04

my dd is pale.

she’s used fake tan in the past, but in photo’s she still looks whiter than white.

I’ve never used it and love the pale look. I wouldn’t worry.

why do you think fake tan will give you bikini confidence? Do you think people will judge your skin colour?

ReeseWitherfork · 28/06/2023 20:05

If you’ll be swimming on holiday it’s game over for fake tan. Chlorine strips that right off. Maybe consider a tinted BB body cream?

Curlygirl06 · 28/06/2023 20:39

I'm so pale people would stand next to me IN THE WINTER so that the remnants of their tan would look better in comparison to me! I use either Garnier or Dove body lotion with gradual tanning stuff in it. I do it for 2 or 3 days to start with, then re do it about every 3 or 4 days, just enough to cover the blue tinge!

notatherapist · 28/06/2023 20:44

I always get a spray tan for holiday. I don't mind being pale anymore but it's nice for a treat. Yes they have different shades these days so you can start with a light one. I get one about two days before I go- they only last about 5 days on me unfortunately but it's lovely to wear certain holiday items with a bit of colour that I wouldn't normally wear.
Why don't you give it a go before hand? It's usually only about £20-25 around me (SE)

eyestotheskies1 · 28/06/2023 20:45

Paler than paler here. Had tried all the fake tan out there and decided they were all orange..

but last year I tried Mine Tan, they have different base colour toned formulas, so they’re not orange, the ash one and the violet one are really good, very natural.

Yep I accepted it and told myself that at least I wouldn't have skin like leather when I got older 😁

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/06/2023 09:18

I would buy a light shade product with a guide colour and do it yourself with a good fake tan mitt. Remember though that as soon as you swim in a pool with chlorine, it will bleach out.

Hugasauras · 29/06/2023 09:25

I've had a spray tan a couple of times and never had any problems. It's always looked nice on and in pics. I would never do my own self-tan; I think it's rare the person that can do their own self-tan successfully tbh. A bad self-tan is very obvious and I see so many people with slightly orange hands or streaks or orange lines around their hairline!

The only thing is that I then get progressively get paler on holiday as it wears off, the opposite to everyone else!

GettingStuffed · 29/06/2023 09:39

When you're abroad use Piz Buin. It's the only suntan lotion that makes me go brown. I suspect it has a fake tan in it.
