I live on a suburban side road. There's masses of available onroad parking for tradespeople etc, but I still get people blocking my driveway (especially Amazon delivery vans!) when all they have to do is move 2 metres down the road and the grass verge outside my house is ALWAYS free. You'll understand this is sometimes irksome.
Anyway, this morning as I tried to leave for work, there was a white van parked mostly blocking the entrance to my driveway (and there was nothing anywhere else on the road, he had all the verge to use instead). The driver was inside, on his phone, so I knocked on the window. My exact words were,
"You're blocking my driveway and I need to go to work. Could you move your van please".
Yes, I probably did frown. But I did not shout or swear or impugn his manhood, and I did say please. Well! I was swiftly put in my place! Apparently I was incredibly rude, had a face like a "twisted lemon" (?), had banged on his car (no!!) was "probably a civil servant" (??) and he knew about women like me, the reason I spoke to him like that was because I am of a "certain age" (???) and unhappy in my life (!!!) Then he delivered his coup de grace, said, "you know what I'm going to do?", switched his engine on and reversed a yard so that he was completely blocking the drive.
I just kept repeating, more and more crossly that I HAD said please (I guess he wanted me to beg??), that no, I hadn't been rude, and that it is rude to block driveways deliberately.
Of course there's nothing (legal) you can do. It must have been his van, there were no trade markings or company name. But jeez, doesn't it just typify the sort of man who thinks that the world revolves around him and there's no reason at all to give a flying f* about anyone else. And I am cross with myself now as I find myself wondering if I did indeed speak to him "wrongly" (WTAF!!!)
I bet he wouldn't have tried that if I'd been a man.
