It’s rare I good with mince so I’m a bit paranoid, bought it three days ago and put it in the freezer. Defrosted over night and it’s starting to look brown. Would you eat it or am I best binning it?

Your mince looks fine to me but I would never think that mice are safe to eat 🐭😂

Did you defrost in the fridge? Doesn’t look great. How does it smell?

If it’s only on the surface and doesn’t smell it’s probably okay.

if the brown colour is on the inside as well, or it smells I would let it go.

just adding, although you probably know, that mince needs to be well cooked, not just rare/medium like steak.

defrosted in the fridge overnight then left in wrapped up on the side this morning for about an hour, doesn't smell at all it's just the colour that's worrying me

That’s absolutely fine and quite normal. It’s changed colour because it’s been unwrapped and exposed to the air.

HoistWithHisOwnPetard · 27/06/2023 10:35

Mine goes like that, its normal

Wondering why on earth someone would be eating mice though😂

Maglin · 27/06/2023 10:35

If it doesn't smell ita fine.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 27/06/2023 10:35

If it doesn't smell it's fine.

The colour is just oxidisation process, and completely harmless. Mince in supermarkets only stays red as long as it does because its kept in plastic with carbon dioxide to artificially keep it red.

LifeonMarss · 27/06/2023 10:35

Didn't even notice I said mice, rest assured it's definitely mince and not a mouse I'm having for dinner

Mince often goes brown when exposed to air. If it was put in freezer on time, defrosted safely and smells fine, it should be ok ✅

Neekoh · 27/06/2023 10:36

Yes it's fine and I'd happily eat it.

MsFogi · 27/06/2023 10:38

We had a massive infestation of mice in my halls of residence when I was at uni and some of the more adventurous types used to cook and eat them on a regular basis. None of them died.

LakeTiticaca · 27/06/2023 10:39

It will be fine. Red meat starts to turn brown when exposed to air but doesn't affect it. As long as it doesn't smell off. Regarding the mice, my cat would be happy to take them off your hands 😉😉
