One sided breast pain?

No discernible lump, and am late fifties so unlikely to be hormonal. I've also excluded my bra causing it. Sometimes it's not noticeably painful, but is on palpation. I have fibromyalgia, so occasionally get a sore rib elsewhere, so wondered if that was it, but the painful part (partly in my armpit and also in the upper outer quadrant of my breast) doesn't seem to follow the path of a rib.
What would you do? It's been going on for about a month or so.

I'd get it checked out. Likely to be nothing but better safe than sorry.

DustyLee123 · 26/06/2023 21:48

Yep, get it checked.

vipersnest1 · 26/06/2023 21:56

Thanks @Moopsi and @DustyLee123, you've confirmed what I've been thinking, but I've been putting it to the back of my mind as I have a number of health issues at the moment and this will be one more. Hmm
Your right though, and I'll see if I can get a face to face appointment (rare as hen's teeth round here).
I've never had breast pain before - never even had overly tender breasts when pregnant, so this is something new for me and a bit bemusing.

Small update, I'm seeing a GP on Thursday afternoon. They've booked it with a female, but I didn't ask for that and don't really care, I just want to get it checked out.

I'm glad you're being seen quickly vipersnest1. I'll keep me fingers crossed for good news for you.

vipersnest1 · 27/06/2023 23:38

@LuckOfTheDrawer, my reasoning is that I'll probably be sent for some form of scan, or will be referred to the breast clinic, so I'm fully expecting that (to exclude cancer). So I'm not overly worried just now, but might be if that's what happens, and even though the chances are small, there is still the possibility that it's something nasty.
I had the same last year when being checked to exclude bowel cancer - you can't help but worry even if you know the chances are small.
Thank you for the crossed fingers!

Have you had a recent mammogram?

vipersnest1 · 27/06/2023 23:42

@LavanderSmellsLovely, last year or the year before - it was clear.

Just bumping this to see if anyone had anything similar and has an idea of what will likely happen - scan, x ray, ultrasound? Or will I likely just be examined?
I'm feeling down and worried tonight.

Different scenario for me as I had a lump which turned out to be breast cancer but same process.
At my first appointment, I filled out a short questionnaire, saw a doctor, went for mammogram then ultrasound and had biopsies due to what they saw on ultrasound and back to clinic. It was all very efficient. There was a bit of waiting so take something do.
Hope all goes OK and it's nothing worry to about.

Yippeenewjob · 28/06/2023 23:02

I had something similar last year - one sided breast pain, no lump, but could feel it if I pushed (although sometimes difficult to locate). Had it for a few months (as thought it would go away). Didn’t get worse but was just persistent. GP sent me for mammogram (I’d just turned 50 - so first one).

All was fine. Just put down to hormones and they recommended I take evening primrose oil and starflower oil. Pain went eventually.

good luck with your scan x

vipersnest1 · 29/06/2023 16:43

I've just seen the GP.
I'm going to be referred to the non-urgent symptomatic breast clinic. It looks like I will be waiting around ten months to be seen....

Make sure you keep an eye on it in the meantime - I don’t want to worry you but my breast cancer initially presented with pain some months before I could feel a lump. It’s rare but not impossible.

vipersnest1 · 29/06/2023 17:45

@bringonyourwreckingball, that's my concern about having to wait so long.
And, like and idiot, I didn't ask what she'd found, even though after I'd told her roughly where it was most painful, she was able to go straight to the right spot....

Silkierabbit · 29/06/2023 17:55

Its probably nothing but I had that and pain in rib initially with no lump and I thought would be nothing then suddenly a great massive lump appeared and got referred and lobular breast cancer which grows as a spiders web first and forms lump at end. It evades 50% of mammos and ultrasounds as well. Highly unlikely but do watch for a lump appearing, dimples, one breast feeling different to other, put arm up and breast becomes distorted though that was post lump.

vipersnest1 · 29/06/2023 19:32

@Silkierabbit, I've just had a proper feel with my body horizontal and my boobs hanging down IYSWIM. The 'good' side feels smooth. The painful side feels lumpy. I imagine that's what the doctor felt.
