Is the amazon kids fire tablet any good?

Looking to get a tablet or something for my three and a half year old for when we travel, so it won't get loads of heavy use generally.
Is it easy to use? Does it offer similar features to the iPad in terms of the variety you can download (games/tv shows etc)?

The newer ones are good and perfect for a 3 year old.

Dd1 is 8 and possibly will 'need' something else soon. We've had them for both dc since eldest was 3 and amazon have replaced a couple free when they've broken. We love them, get all the amazon games and stuff us netflix as well. We removed youtube and like knowing that they are safe and can't access anything. They use my phone sometimes but their kindles can be used safely totally unsupervised and that is why we chose them.

They were fine to set up too and they just turn them on and all the stuff is there, no profiles or anything to go through.

You can download things, they don't always work though, i've had it so many times now that a download won't open as says needs internet that i've started taking an older Iphone on journeys with programmes on for her.
Once her Fire dies i'm getting her a refurbished Ipad mii.
